Keg. Like a sweet APA. Very smooth for its high alcohol content. Caramel sweetness. Resinous hop aroma.

Draft - Caramel and some light Woody notes. Dark mahogany with a nice beige head. Sweet, whisky notes, Woody and a bit of boozy bitterness. Not bad for the style.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy dark amber color with red shades, and creamy head. It has some caramel flavor, but the high octane brewing comes with some phenol notes, fusels; there is also a light note of diacetyl in the final; for the rest, it’s lightly sweet, full bodied, lean, with strong bitterness and an evident but not disturbing alcohol perception, light nuttiness in the final.
Unsatisfactory offer from this great brewery, maybe an old keg.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours an opaque burgundy with a small beige head. Aroma brings out caramel malts that are somehow faded due to the higher hop content. Flavour is well-balanced, with notes of caramel, toffee, and resinous hops. Cohesive and wonderfully balanced - the hops take away what is often cloying sweetness in scotch ales. Excellent.

Backlog time. Rated May 26, 2013 at Volo, Almost muddy-looking brown-amber with a lasting frothy biege head. Mild aroma - light roast malt, hint of nuttiness - just wheaty grain, really - a bit raw - some alcohol. Taste - some nice funk to it, quite surprising - nutty, background tart fruit, not much alcohol for 9.5%. Thick, chewy, a little astringent and undercarbonated, sour dry acidic finish - pretty good after all.

On tap at Bistro L’Autre Oeil. Cloudy reddish brown with a frothy tan head. Flavors are toffee, resinous hops, citrus, toasted malts and smoke with earthy and fruity notes. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, sticky texture.
