COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

A ckear brown porter with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sour cherries over chocolate, wood extract, Brett, acids, intriguing. In mouth, a nice smooth sour cherry with coffee, chocolate, cork, Brett, complex and challenging. On tap at Hivernale, Feb. 23 2013.

Bar Volo feature. All the right bugs, and on a porter. A good blend, good drinkability. Lacy.

My Bottom Line:
Cherries and raisins dwell within roastiness and dark chocolate before moving into a salient combination of tartness and yeasty wilderness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin ring of foam surrounds the darkness.
-Peppery alcohol adds even more complexity to the finish.
-I would have accepted more effervescence. Will see when I get my own bottle if the carbonation levels I got were a result of the bottle having been opened for a while at the festival...
-Mouthfeel was dry and filled with tiny bubbles, never anemic.
-Can’t wait to get a bottle of this for myself. The mouthfeel will undoubtedly be better when poured carefully into a better glass than the one we were using at the festival.

Sample from bottle at Hivernale des Brasseurs.

2013-05-25. Crisp dark brown black body, ruby highlights and a modest tan head. Aroma is modest, lightly sour lightly dusty malt. 7+ Flavour is interesting, lightly tangy and sour up front. Muted dark roast and dusty touches to the malt throughout. 7+ Smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. 3+ Enjoyable but not really what I was in the mood for just yet. Relatively mild overall. On tap at Blind Tiger with Andy, Max, Nicole, Jen, and Dad. Pours a deep brown with a large tan beige head. Deflates a bit but still lingers. Sour acid on the nose. Tannins, wood, roast and cocoa. Tangy with soft old fruit, light acetone. Would be tough to drink two, but very tasty. Warming on the finish.

(Rating #4796)

[5387-20130525] Large bottle. Mild yeasty grains aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a medium-lasting off-white head. Sour roasted yeast malt flavour. Medium-full body. Tasty. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

Draft at Blind Tiger with Streets and the RB gang. Pours a black body with thin off white lacing. Aroma is sour fruit, wine barrel, oak and very faint roast. Mouthfeel is medium to full with notes of oak, lots of wine, dark sour fruits, roast, and wood. A touch too sweet, but this is really nice.

Bottle (Hivernale): Poured a dark black color porter with a medium size light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sour cherry notes with lots of oak notes and some light dry roasted malt notes. Taste is a mix between some porter notes of chocolate and dry roasted malt offset by some cherry notes with quite a bit of oak and some tart notes. The sour notes are definitely stronger then the porter notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting concept though not necessarily a flavour profile that I would seek on a regular basis.

bottle at tdd’s brewpub. hazy, almost murky brown with a small light beige head, ok-retention. red apples, cherries, berries, red grapes, roasted notes, few burnt caramels, maple, vinous characteristics - minerals too, chocolate, pepper, hint of acidity - some lactic notes. soft carbonation, light to medium body - slightly lacking. vinous porter - maybe too much of syrah expresses itself in this brew. nice offering though, even if style seems somewhat misunderstood.
