4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Eructoblaster (2447) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 13, 2013
Bottle - 750ml. Pours an opaque black body with a good beige foamy head. Strong, rich malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate, plummy, vanilla, and bourbon hints. Alcohol is subtle. Its robust malty/hoppy taste carries oaky and bourbon notes. Ends with a long, warming, unusual licorice finish. Interesting.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BMan1113VR (7382) - Los Angeles, California, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle from an old trade (Dated 4/2012). Now available locally. Pours with a very dark brown, but not quite inky pour, medium sized fluffy brown head. Medium retention, good lace. Aromas are of coffee, dark chocolate, pancakes and bourbon (typical morning). Some minerality, very mild esters, vanilla, lactone, lightly spicy spirit character. Medium caramel to butterscotch roundness. Flavors are vinous and possibly a touch tart (definitely low pH for an imperial stout). Dark fruits, currant, light barrel, dark chocolate and caramel. I’d say there is definitely an infection starting up (which is a shame). Still quite drinkable now. Barrel character is moderate to light, but there is a medium strong tannin influence on the mouthfeel. A bit thin, livelier carbonation than expected. Medium warmth. Glad I drank this on now.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bhensonb (9007) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 4, 2013
750 shared by Marcus. Pours very dark brown with a beige/tan smear. Aroma is bourbon/wine. Reboot brain. There’s a lot bourbon/alcohol in the aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is arguably a bit tannic/sour with smooth bourbon and dark toast malt. It’s very complex and tasty.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 marcus (5015) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 4, 2013
Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head and a bourbon and chocolate aroma. There is a carbonated treacle flavor with a delayed bourbon trail.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jbeatty (509) - New York, USA - APR 1, 2013
Bottle, 04/01/2013. Pours black, huge foamy tan head dies down to an inviting fluffy pillow on the surface, large bubbled lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, licorice, sweet chestnut, vanilla cake frosting with caramel and bourbon in the end. Taste is chocolate and cocoa powder, dark roast porter notes with slight coffee bitterness, bourbon prominent in the finish, a little hot but not too abrasive. Medium full palate, becomes more round with time as it was perhaps overly carbonated at first. Enjoyable, though not top notch, imperial stout for me.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 quelquechose19 (19) - - MAR 24, 2013
De délicieuses arômes de bourbon et de vanille légèrement boisé. Des saveurs de chocolat, de café, de caramel avec un gout surette de cerises. Le goût de bourbon est présent sans être trop dominant. Une bière de dégustation de grande qualité.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 solidfunk (1839) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2013
Bourbon influence is strong here. Pours black with good lacing and head. Aroma of strong bourbon - a little unbalanced actually. Some vanilla and coffee as well. Booze in finish. Ok but overpriced and overhyped. Bottle thanks to Delires des terroirs for finding this one in the back for me.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Damico (1922) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 19, 2013
Pours dark, unclear coffee in color with an easily dissipating grayish cocoa head, from the barrel aging. The aroma gives a bit of infection - wild yeast, and some roasted malts. The body is also thin, from the barrel aging I assume, and some flavors of for me, again, lightly infected yeast notes with carmel and roasted malts.
