COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels, gives notes of roasted malt on a coffee, dark chocolate and caramel background. The velvety palate is sustained by a sagacious amount of alcohol warmth that give this beer the taste and feel of a fine spirit.

750 ml bottle with resealable cap (happiness). Pours an orange-brown black with a resilient, cream-beige head. Smell is coffee, black chocolate. Taste is tons of chocolate, black coffee, burnt caramel, vanilla, wood, bourbon. Finish is black coffee, cocoa, somewhat light bitterness, but comes balancing all the malt quite nicely. Medium to thick body, soft, velvety mouthfeel. Weak carbonation. I feel like calling it a masterpiece. Ok, let’s go ahead and call it a masterpiece. I need more bottles of that, right freaking now! Aging time!

750mL bottle, courtesy of manuchampions (thanks Jon), pours a very deep dark amber brown with a big tan head. Aroma of light bourbon barrels, toasted nuts, vanilla and rubber. Flavour is very rubber-heavy, with loads of leather, some barrel / woody notes and a bit of chocolate. Not the most complex, and a bit off, with the leather / rubber notes. Disappointing, but solid nevertheless.

A deep dark stout with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, bitter chocolate, licorice, peaty notes and alcohol warmth. In mouth, a smooth peaty chocolate with burned coffee, vanilla, aniseed, loads of alcohol, nice. Tasted with GRM, Puskinwow, Boutip, Ian, Mike on Sept. 7 2012.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of black chocolate and light roasted malt notes with light bourbon notes though not as much vanilla as I would have expected. Taste is also mostly dominated by black chocolate notes with light green notes and light dry roasted malt. Bourbon notes are more subdued then I was expecting with almost no vanilla notes perceptible. Body isn’t as full as expected with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Overall not bad though not as complex as expected with not as much bourbon notes as expected as well.

Habité par une multitude de sucres, des figues aux noix de coco, du cuir au chocolat noir. Les tannins et l’alcool sont également présents. Un peu mince et volatile en bouche mais somme toute, une belle expérience.

Almost certain I sampled this at the last station I stopped at during THE FESTIVAL with Andrew. If there was a different stout there, please let me know, as this was 50 or so beers into the session. Pours a deep brownish black body with thin chocolate brown lacing. Aroma is chocolate, light booze, oak and bourbon. Mouthfeel is medium to full with notes of roasted chocolate malts, wood, chocolate syrup, bourbon, sweet vanilla, nuts and maple.

750ml bottle pours a watery, translucent black with some clumpy, beige head. Nose is sweet, malty, brown sugar, nutty, bread. Flavor is sweet, malty, bread, cola, toast. Medium bodied, dry finish. Hardly any bourbon.

My Bottom Line :
American oak greenness mounts this Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout’s roasted malt flavors, while banana candy, vanilla and flowers build depth.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam garnishes the blackness.
-The mouthfeel is soft and plush. Not too heavy, and not lean either.
-Roasted malts create bitterness alongside resinous hops and lingering oak flavors.
-Alcohol is a discreet presence in the flavor profile.

Bottle.
