Labelled as a compulsive strong beer, it’s basically a badass IPA. Nose is big tropical fruit, notably pineapple, and citrus. Taste is a nice , sweet caramel malt with pineapple, orange, and a nice dry, piney finish. Really, really nice balance. This beer has the malt character that the Spearhead Hawaiian Pale Ale lacks, and it’s like an amplified version of TDD’s MacTavish IPA. Awesome beer.

On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A medium amber beer with a bit of whitish head. A nice balance of citrus and resinous hops with plenty of malts. 3.5.

Pours a cloudy straw with an enthusiastic persistent fluffy head and moderate sticky head. Nose is complex - citrus, pineapple, pine, biscuity malt, earthy herbal tones. Taste is similar, with grapefruit bitterness and pine resin, crackers, a slight herbal pepperiness, and an off-dry finish. Medium- to light-bodied, with low residual carbonation and a lingering bitterness. "Compulsive Strong Ale" indeed. It’s only 6.5%, so it’s hardly heavy-duty, but _la morsure_ ("the bite") comes from hops, not ABV - which is just the way I like it. Interestingly enough, the quote on the back of the bottle reads «Le bonheur est dans l’amertume» ("Happiness is in bitterness") which I think sums it up nicely. Got fairly thick with sediment towards the end of the bottle, but that’s hardly a negative for a bottle-conditioned ale. Pleasant and worth trying.

Pours a hazy golden color with a large white head. Citrus (grapefruit mainly) and tropical fruit aroma (mango) some pine and you get some hops in there also. Sweet malt on the taste. Medium bitterness, light bodied. Not bad.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Deep blond color with compact head. Very strong aroma, hoppy, fruity (tropical fruits and muscatel grape). Lean body, the mouthfeel is rather dry; the malt profile is quite crispy, some toffee and water crackers; expectedly strong bitterness with nice citrusy edge; light residual sweetness in the final. Overall, just the perfect balance for its kind, and highly drinkable, and fresh.
You don’t need to search another IPA.

600 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours clear golden with a tall, fluffy white head that remains and leaves a large amount of fine lace. The nose has notes of big notes of caramel, pine, grapefruit, mango and a peppery spiciness. The flavour is fairly well balanced between mildly sweet on the one hand with notes of caramel, tropical fruit and citrus on the one hand with medium bitter with notes of pine, citrus peel and resin on the other. Subtle spicy notes come through as well, along with nutty malts and a touch of earthiness. It finishes out with a drier finish, with bitter notes of resin and citrus. On the palate it is medium in body with a creamy texture and intense carbonation. Overall, a nice IPA with good balance and particularly nice malts. Complex and elegant. 2014-06-02

600 ml bottle. Clouded brown-ish orange, off-white foam mostly fades. Aroma of tropical fruity citrus hop. Sprucey fruit taste, citrus and weak c-malt, tasty but thin, becomes slightly grapefruity. Average carbonation, lighter bodied, moderately hopped. IPA Lite. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Haven’t had too many good IPAs in Montreal but this was great. Cloudy orange pour from draft at vice versa. Aroma is tropical citrus heaven. Tastes citrus orange grapefruity and happy

Bottle; Pours hazy gold, large puffy cap - Aromas of grapefruit, mango, fruits and sweet malts. Lush silky mouth feel, sturdy body. Flavour profile has big chewy malts and rich citrus hopping up front, gets intense mid palate and finishes out lightly dry and pleasantly bitter - world class IPA

600 ml bottle.Very solid head, slight hazy golden color with copper into it.. Smell is very hoppy ( bitter hop and aroma hop) feels quite floral. Really feels IPA. Also has that yeasty aroma in background. The taste is quite soft actually from what I expected from the smell. But it still manages to be great! Hoppy yeasty floral taste. You can also feel a bit of the pine/spruce aroma they advertise but not by much... has it’s strenghts and weaknesses but really good in overall!!! Cheers
