beerbuzzmontreal (2674), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 8, 2008 Sampled on tap at Brouhaha. Cloudy amber pour with a thin white head. Decent aroma of floral, fruity, piny hops. Interesting flavor of floral, fruits, piny hops with some toasted malt and a bitter finish. The body is medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. There is a nice balance in there but the whole doesn’t feel like what I expect from Trou du Diable, it doesn’t compare to their other IPA, la Morsure.

Rastacouere (5202), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Apr 17, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Draught at Brouhaha. A product that will presumably be quite variable, but this first(?) batch was a rather dark, almost toasty IPA that felt far less vibrant than its sibling: La Morsure.
I like:
It is an interesting concept, bringing the drinker to get involved and concerned about his regular brewery.
I dislike:
It does not feel as if the current malt bill is ever gonna be very efficient at uplifting the hop flavours. It is vague and undefined at this point, slightly toasty and tasting mostly of old nuts that have been lying, drying on the counter for weeks - you know when nuts lost their flavours from advanced age? Well the malt feels that way, not provinding so much in terms of texture and even less in terms of cerealic freshness. Beyond that, the current hop is not particularly aromatic, perhaps more of a bittering varietal? It remains quite bitter and relatively lingering, but mostly not very fresh leafy, barely citrusy flavours.
