2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at Brouhaha. A product that will presumably be quite variable, but this first(?) batch was a rather dark, almost toasty IPA that felt far less vibrant than its sibling: La Morsure.
It is an interesting concept, bringing the drinker to get involved and concerned about his regular brewery.
It does not feel as if the current malt bill is ever gonna be very efficient at uplifting the hop flavours. It is vague and undefined at this point, slightly toasty and tasting mostly of old nuts that have been lying, drying on the counter for weeks - you know when nuts lost their flavours from advanced age? Well the malt feels that way, not provinding so much in terms of texture and even less in terms of cerealic freshness. Beyond that, the current hop is not particularly aromatic, perhaps more of a bittering varietal? It remains quite bitter and relatively lingering, but mostly not very fresh leafy, barely citrusy flavours.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Braise et Houblon. Pint. Clear blonde color, thin white head. Aroma is dominated by the sweet smell of lychee, melon and grapes. Not that hoppy, medium bitterness & acidity. Grassy mouthfeel This batch was a good one I guess!

Tap at Churchkey. Hazy amber with sticky lace. Heavy, dank tropical hop aroma, island breezy, and fruity melons. Taste is heavy bitter, fresh melons, white pepper, resiny hops and fleshy grapefruit. Really good stuff.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft. Upfront dominant American hop profile. Piney, resin, lasting bitterness. Get bits of earthy grass in the finish and backing from sweet malts. Could use more citrus to take it to the next level IPA. As for Belgian elements, I do not really get any. Pretty straightforward tasting IPA.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2010 Tap at the brewpub. Dark copper pour with an off white head. Aroma is quite resinous and piney, some orange peel, cake and earth. Taste is bitter hops, but with a sort of slightly off earthy acidity that I couldn’t quite get around, very little malt sweetness. Palate was on the heavily carbonated side. This beer was great in terms of making an american style IPA in quebec, the choice of hops was great but the taste needed a little working on. OK.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Vermont Brewfest 2010. Dark copper pour with a small head. Aroma isn’t particularly aggressive, holding mostly floral and herbal notes. Flavor is uniquely subtle, with some hints of light citrus, black tea, rose petal, and grass. Palate is light and, for the most part, quite drinkable. Not fantastic, but a very interesting IPA.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Birreria Paradiso. Light hoppy aroma, can’t figure out what variety. Ice tea in the nose, coriander, jasmine. Not much malt sweetness. Golden dark amber clear with light hazy and thin white lacing head. Medium body and heavy carbonation. Starts pretty dry with a ton of hop flavor, carbonic acidity. Light malt and big bitter finish, chalky bitter after. A bit harsh.
