A clear brown porter with a thin moka head.A pleasant aroma of chocolate, Brett and oak barrell. In mouth, a sweetish chocolate malt with light peppery notes. Medium bodied. Tasted at Mondiale 2007.

Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam shrouds the opaque ebony.
-Vanilla, molasses, and roastiness whip up a full aroma indicative of its porter stylings.
-Blackberry fruitiness accompanies the chewy roastiness.
-The robust body is alleviated by the pugnacious carbonation.

What if you dig deeper?
-Roastiness is quite intense, which makes it lean towards the charred vegetal side of things.
-Some smokiness is perceived amidst red meat wealth.
-Although I would ease up on the carbonation a bit, this remains a fine porter from Trou du Diable, which is to be expected of them.

On tap at the brewpub.

2011-02-19. Black body, modest tan head. 3+ Flavour of alcohol and roast up front, some coffee and cocoa undertones, sweet malt core. Finishes dry with a dusty roast note. Average palate is smooth but thinner than my preference for a porter. Pleasant aroma of dusty roast malt, pleasant light cocoa accents. A pretty decent porter, it grows on me. Tap at Volo, Toronto

February 19, 2011 - at Volo Trou du Diable event. Clear deep ruby-black with a two-finger light tan creamy head. Dry and lightly acidic aroma, quite roasty, not a bit sweet, mildly herbal - classic porter. Taste follows, a bit mild, and there is more sweetness than in the aroma, but still very solid - coffee, baker’s chocolate, nutshell, a hint of mocha. Solid body for a porter, just enough carbonation (did I mention I hate fizzy porters?), a hint of acidity in the dry nutty finish. Very good stuff.

In short: A roasted porter on the dry side of things. Highly drinkable as it should be. Nice
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Near black body topped by a small beige head with good retention leaving good lacings
In long: Nose is roasted with notes of cacao powder. Body is well malted, plenty of smooth caramel, some milky notes. But the nice high roasted level and resinous leafy hops dry out the beer very nicely and makes it truly sessionnable. My last beer from this night spent there for their fifth anniversary party. Overall, with its atmosphere, service, food menu and beer selection, I think Trou Du Diable really sucks… money out of my wallet.

Draft. Pours a bruin body with an off white head. Dry roasty body and light burnt malt tones. A bitter earth and vine like hoppiness. Malty milk like sweetness with light chocolate. Pretty decent porter.

[3605-20110219] Tap. Roasted dry nut malt aroma is piercingly charred. Black body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Burnt nutty flavour has a long roasty aftertaste. Medium-dull body. Wow, super charred notes are overwhelming at first, interesting. (7-/3/7/3/14) 3.4

(23 avril 2013)
