COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rauch lager aged 2 months in oak barrels.

Editor’s note: the "Brassin Spécial" is aged in bourbon barrels for 2 months; it’s distinguishable from the non-oaked version for the bottle size (75cl), the alcohol (6.5%) and the presence on the neck of the label "brassin spécial"

Hazy dark amber to brown color; large beige head. Nice smoke aroma, not too intense, woody. Lean body, not enough malt support, a bit yeasty, smoky. But also a bit messy and not totally satisfactory.

Pours a deep tawny brown with an aggressively foamy two fingers of tan head, growing above the top of the glass and persisting meringue-like, with spotty lacing. The nose is of course dominated by a woody smoke, with raisins and malt in the background. Taste is surprisingly mild, with more sweet malt and less smoke than is present in the nose, and a bitter aftertaste that builds as the level drops. Mouth feel is lighter than expected for the colour and head, but also with lower carbonation than might be expected given the head. Much more drinkable than my previous foray into the world of rauchbier. Mild and pleasingly complex, particularly for a lager. An interesting beer that proves that "lager" need not be synonymous with "tasteless, fizzy, and yellow".

Bottle - Smoke, peat and dark malts. Cloudy brown and a rich beige head. Peaty, smoke, light sweetness and a nice light bitter finish. Well done.

Big bottle @LogansVictoria. A challenging brew: smoky, roast ham, basement funk, nuts, molasses, faint pine. Very rich with a nice, bitter hop finish. Very round, thanks to the strong malt backbone. Liked it more and more with each sip.

Dark brown pour with reddish tinge and small tan head. Aroma of malts, smoke, and slightly fruity. Taste of malts, smoke, slight caramel, pine needles. Medium bodied, nice carbonation, dry smoky finish. This is nicely balanced mildy smoky. Very drinkable, good beer.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber / mahogany with a very large beige head. Aroma brings out lots of smoke and bourbon barrels. Flavour brings out bourbon and smoke in equal parts. Not a whole lot else here. Quite highly carbonated. Not as good as the non-barrel aged version. Decent, but overly thrilling.
