(Rating #1490) Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 2, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A fun experiment using what must be a massive proportion of rye (30%+ would not surprise me), therefore chewy, yet not mealy. A direct platform to discover rye usage in beer.
I like:
Rye in general. A superb cereal, always procuring a satisfying palate. Appealing cerealic/fruity, spicy, toasty flavour profile. Very drinkable initially though I would not go for a second glass.
I dislike:
There would probably be more fun involved for me if there was a deeper use of hops. Their character is neglectable here. MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 1, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Toasted rye cosiness merges into a fecund spicy fruitiness in this carefully round and rural Roggenbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the hazy amber.
-The spiciness is redolent of caraway (but never as intense as Triumph’s Jewish Rye though), creating a tantalizing nose with the overt rye character.
-The fruitiness roams around orange and apple skin realms, but never settles down into one distinct variety.
-The body is round yet drinkable, which was to be expected of the style.
On tap at Brouhaha. rederic (1444), montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 28, 2008 On tap at the Brouhaha, hazy, a bit muddy amber hue, with a thick beige head, yeasty, fruity, spicy nose, with a wheaty, wet rye cereal note, some nice esters of ripe apple, with a faint nutmeg, clove spiciness, within some toasted, caramelized malt aromas follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, wheaty, fruity, subtle bubblegum character, with a malty, toasted character, with a grainy rye cereal accent, hint of toffee, with some notes of ripe apple and faint raisin, in a touch of clove and nutmeg spiciness, leading towards a malty, acidic, fruity, lingering dry finish.
