Draft @ brewpub. Deep dark brown, almost black with tan scant head. Coffee-chocolate carob aromas. It’s not immediately apparent that it’s kit beer. Soft and creamy but a little thin. Nice dry cocoa flavors and a sweeter finish. Not bad.

Pours an opaque brown color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, coffee, chocolate, roast, toffee, and some earthiness. Flavor is roast, fruity, chocolate, plum, and a sweet fruity finish.

(Draught, at the brewery) Pours a murky dark brown with a moderate beige head. Aroma of black licorice, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and dark fruits. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, and smoke. The best beer I have tried from China.

If you have made your way to Yangshuo, you’re probably aching for beer that doesn’t taste like water. For that, "Le Vôtre" is the place to stop. Poured a dark brown with a small and short-lived creamy tan head. The aroma is very malty with some smoked coffee, dark chocolate and dried fruits. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy though a bit thinner than expected. The flavors echo the malty nose with a pleasant earthy blend and a bit of yeast. This is an easy-drinking, simple brew that really hits the spot. The mild alcohol content (4.70%) won’t bear you down in the humid heat. The best I had in China.

Creamy brown color with a thin a soft tan head. Aroma is sweeter with a bit of nut and fig, and a small hint of smoke. Mouthfeel is thins and disappointing. Flavor is a bit of coffee and chocolate. There is also a strong bit of vinegar acidicy to this.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2010 2010 rating: Dark brown. The aroma is lightly chocolatey, perhaps a bit light. Extracty taste - a little gasoline, some light chocolate. Finishes a little extracty. Decent, drinkable, but hardly as nice as I thought it was last time around.
2004 rating: Cloudy, quite dark chestnut colour. Coffeeish aroma with caramel and cashew nuances. Toasty, coffeeish body with hints of nuts and creme brulee. Earthy, slightly toffeeish finish. 8-4-8-5-16 = 4.1
