Its nice to see a few more of these strong milds appearing. Milds don’t have to be weak and watery and this is a very good example of the stronger style. Very dark brown colour with a reddish tinge. Roasty malt, with some coffee. Very smooth, with maybe a slightly ashy mouthfeel. Just a touch thin but then it is a mild, so I’m not going to hold that against it. Cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival, May 2005.

Gravity @ 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, UK. 28th May 2005
Rich roasted and liqourice aroma. Not as full bodied as expected, but still rather sweet and yet complex. Coffee of the espresso kind. Dusty gravel in aftertaste with more liqourice and black chocolate.

Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival, gravity dispense. Pitch black (= very, very dark brown) colour, no head or carbonation. Strong roasted coffee aroma. Coffee flavour, a bit on the sweet and mellow side.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Jet black, small espresso head. Superb Mild - strong in fact. Rich, catchy on the finish. . Very smooth coffee flavour - but not OTT or aggressive. Doesn’t taste the strength, but does have an odd coconut biscuit quality in the aftertaste. Very good. Perilous.
