3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650ml bottle pours black in color with a finger of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains with some chocolate and dark fruits. Taste is a light roasted grain and grassy hop bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A decent brew that suits the style quite well, although not a smoky as the traditional German schwarzbiers.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
This was disappointing. I got quite a large amount of carbonation which made it taste like a black malty soda. Bummer.

Trying to compare this to Kostritzer, and it misses on every mark (except color). None of the roast grain nature in either aroma or taste. Some minor burnt toast notes at the finish, but overall this is just an average schwarzbier. Suggest previous raters try the German originals.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black pour with quickly dissapating tan head. Aroma is light roasty malt and a touch of coffee. Flavor is light roasted malt with a good malt bitter finish. Just a touch of twang I can’t pinpoint. Medium bodied but a touch fizzy.

Bomber from Total Wine Manassas. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of chocolate, mild roast and nuts. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, mild dark fruits. Thin-medium bodied, high carbonation, drinkable. 50th schwarzbier!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber, thanks Darrin. Aroma is strong in coffee, nice and roasty. Flavor is dry and bittersweet, roasty; light flavors of licorice, grain, wet river rock. Pours black with red highlights, large tan head with great retention and lace. Creamy mouthfeel, medium body. Tasty.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a nice looking full mocha head. The aroma offers up a mix of earthy chocolate and coffee as well as dark roasted malts. The taste is on the roasty side with dark roasted coffee and dark roasted malts that have a bit of an ashy char feeling to them. Underneath the dark roastiness is a murmur of chocolate. Into the finish and then lingering in the after taste are dark roasted coffee and near burnt malt notes. Seems a bit big on the burnt malts but not by much. Decent enough.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at the brewpub. Pours a near black color with a small tan head on it. Nose is slightly roasty and rather bitter. Taste is slightly bitter as well, and reminds me of cheap coffee. Some roasting to it. Meh.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
Pours verydark mahogany, clear but nearly black in the glass. The head is small but partially durable and leaves some spotty lacing.
This is an American style Schwarzbier: less sweet and more flavorful and hoppy than the standard German version. Some smoke and expresson but only the slightest hint of burnt grain.
Feel: medium-light body with well-matched medium carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle- Pours black with a one finger tan head that reduces to a ring and blanket with nice cobwebby lace. Aroma is roasted malts, peanut butter, mellow hops, charcoal. The taste is smooth and creamy, mellow roasted malts, this is really tasty, a subtle smokiness, light bitterness and a light sweet to dry finish. I wasn’t really looking forward to this, but I enjoyed it.
