COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Blind Pig Dunkel Weizen

This is a medium-bodied, unfiltered dark wheat beer with a smooth, gently sweet character. The flavor has notes of chocolate and caramel combined with the cereal malt flavor contributed by malted wheat. Blind Pig is a very unique beer with few other examples of the German Dunkel Weizen style brewed in the Northwest, and certainly none as tasty.

Bottle. Very light chocolate malt and molasses aroma. Chestnut with a small tan head. Toasty malt flavor with a light bitter finish. Medium body, light carbonation.

Draft. Poured a deep brown with a smallish tan head (which might have been because I suspect the beer took a while to get to our table from the bar). Aroma and flavor were dark malt, slightly toasty, a good bit of chocolate, some coffee and honey notes. Muted wheat character; some very light banana. Moderately sweet, tempered by some mild bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel.

Nice enough, maybe not too spot on to style. Dark fruits, dark roast malt. Not much of the expected wheatiness.

Deep brown color. Aroma of candi sugar and a touch of molasses. Some plum and prune. Not a bad aroma. Flavor comes through a little less enthusiastically however. A bit thin but still some caramel malt and a bit of spice on the back end of the palate. A little bit of cocoa texture. Finish stays with you for a while.

UPDATED: OCT 19, 2012 Bottle. Light chocolate malt aroma. Cloudy dark brown color with moderate head. Light chocolate malt flavor. Lightly bitter/ashy aftertaste. This tastes more like a regular dunkel - minimal Weizen characteristics. Not a bad beer but a huge disappointment when expecting a Weizen.

650ml bottle pours dark brown in color with some red highlights and has a finger of off-white head that settles to leave some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel with mild chocolate and light fruits with hints of yeast. Taste is caramel and light chocolate malt sweetness with some hints of fruit and a surprisingly citrusy hop bitterness in the finish. A bit bitter for the style, but that makes it even more enjoyable for my tastes, as I sometimes find these styles too sweet.

I was hopeful on this one, I really like a good dunkel....unfortunately it was lacking intensity, and really lacking the wheat and hefe component, no vanilla or banana. It will get you by, but I just wasn’t that impressed and see it as an average dunkel.
