Commercial Description:
This Northwest style Hefeweizen is light-bodied, pale amber in color, fruity and refreshing, with a malty wheat character. The flavor is light and crisp with a touch of malt sweetness. Whistling Pig Wheat is unfiltered, with the classic cloudy appearance which characterizes the best Hefeweizens brewed in the Great Pacific Northwest. Whistle Pigs are marmots, small furry critters who live in the high country all around Leavenworth, WA, with especially high concentrations in nearby Whistling Pig Meadow.

Seventh stop during the ABA Beer Tour ’07 in Olympia, Washington. Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy pale golden blonde brew with a frothy white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film with very good lacing. Aroma of bread dough with some citrus hop character and a touch of banana esters. Taste is light, some carbonation with a fruity texture. Finish is slightly sweet with a dry citrus aftertaste. Remember to tell the bartender "no lemon" or you’ll miss out on this brew’s true flavor.

On tap at the brewery in Olympia. Aroma was appropriately clovey and wheaty. Appearance is solid gold, semi-cloudy. Flavor is again clovey and wheaty. Texture was very light and had some graininess to it. Overall, it was very easy to drink, definitely better as a whole than just individual parts. Will try again when I can take better notes.

Had on tap at Sharps Roasters near the Seattle Airport. Has a nice murky light brown appearance with a sticky white head with good lacing. Has a excellent silky smooth mouthfeel. The flavor - not your ordinary German wheat - has a bit of a honey sweetness to it underlying the malty sweetness. Excellent way to finish up my trip to Washington State.

Thick, cloudy caramel appearance, perfectly alluring for the american wheat style. Quite flavorful wheatness makes this hefe a new one among my favorites--must try again to get a better feel for it.

On-Tap at the River Rock Alehouse in Eagle, ID
Hazy bright copper orange color with some light head & minimal lacing. The aroma is very citrusy and tart with some light wheat and bright grapefruity hops. The flavor is moderately hoppy, very up front with some starchy wheat tanging up the finish. Lots of citrus & clean balanced tail notes. Way too hoppy for the style but I liked it and I can rate it however I want!
