ABUSEDGOAT (1868), California, USA Apr 17, 2008 Hazy orange, moderate head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is yeast, spice, somewhat fruity, grass, funk. Medium bodied, fairly dry. Fairly interesting, quite enjoyable.
damienv10 (96), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 8, 2008 Opaque orange with a thick, rich, white foamy head. Fresh orange, mint, lavender, cinnamon, ginger, and sweet apple make up the subtle but complex nose. Lively carbonation makes the beer crisp without stinging you. This is light for a biere de garde. If it was a little less hoppy I would swear it’s a saison. Dry malt flavors with a hint of fruit, a bit of sourness, some spice, and a small punch of hops make of the flavor profile. More intense nose than palate. This isn’t a bad beer, it’s not quite up to the challenge for beers of it’s style. drewbeerme (1716), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 23, 2008 2/23/08, 2007 bottle sample, pours clear golden with white head. nose is yeasty, wheaty. flavor is yeasty, wheaty, hay, slight funk. semi-dry finish. decent stuff. robforbes (641), Bremerton, Washington, USA Nov 16, 2007 purchased at puget sound wine cellar in port orchard washington.
this brew needs to be swirled prior to pour to mix the sediment. as you drink the appearance and flavor changes.
first pour (which i did swirl and swirled prior to each pour) pours a semi-cloudy golden with a medium size thick and foamy white head, decent lacing. last pour is deep auburn-orange that is very cloudy, same head only a bit darker.
smell is yeasty, fruit (pear and apple), some malt, touch of spice, musty.
taste starts tangy, sour, pear, slight metallic.
half way thought the bottle it becomes creamy, slightly bitter, more of an apple than a pear, malts, less metal.
the end of the bottle is more of a thick amber ale, some grapefruit, more bitter and no metal.
this beer would be great for three people with different tastes to have together, starts more as an abt or traditional ale, ends more of an amber ale or IPA. very strange brew in a good way. WISEGUY572 (1083), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2007 More of a great saison than a biere de garde. Hazy amber, big white head, nose of yeast. Taste is sweet caramel, yeast and bready, pepper and spice. Sweet and spicey finish.
