toxichop (329) - South Gate, California, USA - JUL 6, 2014
Purchased at Sunset Beer Co, 10 bucks so it doesn’t break the bank. P: Almost gushed on me, almost. Poured a dull yellow/orange hued with a champagne two finger head. S: A ton of things going on here, both bad and good. Has some typical Belgium farmhouse smells, (oak and wheat) but with light perfume and vinegar, light smoke, sharp cheddar, malt and olives. T: Olives and oranges, alot of honey, sweat malt, grains, wheat and has a bit of a mineral pilsner finish. Some nice peach flavors pop-up as it warms and the smell also gets fruitier as it warms. M: Highly carb, light with a bit of crisp. O: An odd beer and Imagine that explains some of the harsh ratings. However, I found to be enjoyable. IMO, if your not into weird beers (Fantome etc.) you may not be a big fan of this but I enjoyed it.

>> GUSHER! Thanks Travlr for the BdG rake. Low haze golden pour. Huge green olive and garlic nose. Taste is olive, garlic, papery. Palate is paper. Not much to it. Huh. Whatever bottle shop in Tennessee these beers were bought at sucks.

Bottle at RBWG, thanks! Pours a hazy earthy gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has an earthy grain/hay note with a bit of bread backing. Flavor has earthy grain and citrus with a bit of bitter citrus in the finish.

750 ml bottle shared by? Pours a cloudy yellow gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have floral, sweet, biscuity, yeast, some off notes. OK.

Bottle pour hazy light yellow. Nose slight sour tart, mild vegetal. Taste hay, and vegetable. Mild mid palate sweet. Finish similar to early taste.

Bottle - Perfumy, rose, orange and some weird artificial sweetness. Cloudy yellow with a rich white head. Honey and light grain with that floral sweetness. Nice and floral, weird but fun.

This is a totally enjoyable beer and one of my favorites. I have been drinking it for about 5 months now and it is delicious as both table beer with food or for sipping with friends. The flavor is earthy and rich. It varies slightly from bottle to bottle, but the taste is always excellent.

Bottle pour, hazy amber with low head. Aroma is light yeast and malt, taste is clean malt with a slight pepper finish, nice one.

Best when consumed before 27/07/14. Poured into a La Chouffe glass. I’m fairly confident that this is the first beer that I’ve tried from Southern France. I don’t know if it’s a proper saison or biere de garde, for that matter. Whatever that means. The brewery reportedly uses a German yeast strain - the whole backstory is actually quite interesting (organic farmer, who mostly makes goat cheese, decided to make an organic beer with his own barley). The beer pours a warm shade of orange. It’s quite cloudy, though you can just barely see through the glass at points. The head is a pale beige, rocky and huge. Excellent retention and lacing. There’s obviously some nice protein content. Big clumps of bubbles stick to the glass even on the second pour, and the head lasts for ages. Aroma is light and subtle. I’m picking up pears, pineapples, bright grain, grassy hops, minerals and a dusty farmhouse character. It’s all quite gentle, and the sweet barley flavors come through the most. You can smell the grain quality. There’s a very light apricot, raisin tone, but it’s delicate and works very well with the beer. The taste has a wonderfully pleasant barley flavor. It’s soft and sweet and fruity. Apples, pears, peaches, grapes, apricots, all come to mind, but it’s not the sort of thing that hits you over the head. Delightfully and authentically rustic. Fresh and refreshing. The finish adds in some grassy, floral hops and a touch of mineral dryness. Light bitterness coats the mouth after the beer is gone. The mouthfeel is probably my favorite part. This is a gentle but creamy and full beer. I’d almost guess that it used some other grain, but it’s not quite akin to the mouthfeel of anything in particular. This beer has its own unique feel. Very interesting beer. And I’m pleased to have finally decided to pick up a bottle. This beer would pair wonderfully with food. It probably would shine most with cheeses, particular its farm mate, goat cheese, but it would just make for a great all-purpose table beer, really. Great light barley flavor. Nothing too strong or rough on the palate. It’s a very pleasant beer with solid flavor.
