Cloudy orangy pour. Smells bready/caramel like a bock. Smooth caramel flavor. Little malt/hops in the aftertaste. It’s rather nice.

Hazy, unfiltered golden color. Herbal nose with a bit of pear aromatics. Pronounced white pepper on entry and through the mid palate. Champagne- like mouthfeel, biscuit/brioche finish.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2009 Bottle, bb 12/02/11. Pours copper with lively head. Mild earth and spice, aromatic herbs in the aroma. Flavor is textured grain, lightly sweet, mild caramel. Beautifully balanced malt-hop finish. Great farmhouse type beer.

Light color with more of a fizz then a head. Very light no real farm house funkness. A bit of sweetness and hops. Very straightforwad.

Another strange Beer I picked up in some cheese shop in central France...

Peachy blonde and opaque in that strange saison/bière de garde look, with a foamy, fluffy head.
A strange amalgam of spices, mainly cloves and cinnamon, maybe a little peppermint, and it reminded me a bit like apple cobbler (!)
It was quite bubbly, yet the carbonation went down quite smoothly. Weird, the first taste felt quite full and rich, but then it slowly went in a decreshendo of malt body and overall flavor, kind of like when you eat a bag of chips, that first bite seems full of flavor but then your tastebuds get saturated and you need to stuff your mouth with chips just to get that same intensity. Anyway, it had an interesting farmhouse character to it, but not in a funky, bretty way, but more of an earthy, dirty yeast component to it. Quite an oddity, but an enjoyable one.

Purchased at Sunset Beer Co, 10 bucks so it doesn’t break the bank. P: Almost gushed on me, almost. Poured a dull yellow/orange hued with a champagne two finger head. S: A ton of things going on here, both bad and good. Has some typical Belgium farmhouse smells, (oak and wheat) but with light perfume and vinegar, light smoke, sharp cheddar, malt and olives. T: Olives and oranges, alot of honey, sweat malt, grains, wheat and has a bit of a mineral pilsner finish. Some nice peach flavors pop-up as it warms and the smell also gets fruitier as it warms. M: Highly carb, light with a bit of crisp. O: An odd beer and Imagine that explains some of the harsh ratings. However, I found to be enjoyable. IMO, if your not into weird beers (Fantome etc.) you may not be a big fan of this but I enjoyed it.

The top blow off with a bang. Its a good thing it was well settle in the refrigerate or it would have gushed. I am new to this style but so far this is my favorite

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2010 Opaque orange with a thick, rich, white foamy head. Fresh orange, mint, lavender, cinnamon, ginger, and sweet apple make up the subtle but complex nose. Lively carbonation makes the beer crisp without stinging you. This is light for a biere de garde. If it was a little less hoppy I would swear it’s a saison. Dry malt flavors with a hint of fruit, a bit of sourness, some spice, and a small punch of hops make up the flavor profile. More intense nose than palate. This isn’t a bad beer it’s just not as sturdy as most beers of it’s style.

This is a totally enjoyable beer and one of my favorites. I have been drinking it for about 5 months now and it is delicious as both table beer with food or for sipping with friends. The flavor is earthy and rich. It varies slightly from bottle to bottle, but the taste is always excellent.
