Purchased at Sunset Beer Co, 10 bucks so it doesn’t break the bank. P: Almost gushed on me, almost. Poured a dull yellow/orange hued with a champagne two finger head. S: A ton of things going on here, both bad and good. Has some typical Belgium farmhouse smells, (oak and wheat) but with light perfume and vinegar, light smoke, sharp cheddar, malt and olives. T: Olives and oranges, alot of honey, sweat malt, grains, wheat and has a bit of a mineral pilsner finish. Some nice peach flavors pop-up as it warms and the smell also gets fruitier as it warms. M: Highly carb, light with a bit of crisp. O: An odd beer and Imagine that explains some of the harsh ratings. However, I found to be enjoyable. IMO, if your not into weird beers (Fantome etc.) you may not be a big fan of this but I enjoyed it.

Gusher. Cloudy pale yellow color, solid white head. Aroma is earthy and light. Taste is dusty straw. Decent.

Bottle. Hazy rich amber with a big off-white head. Light citrus, wheat (and other grain) aroma. Flavor has an earthiness to it along with spice and a big herbal component - fennel and licorice. Light and refreshing - but the herbal bit put me off after awhile.

Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam settles atop the murky orange.
-Minty herbs are suggestively laying on a heap of bready yeast.
-Pear juice and medecinal herbs propose a wacky flavor profile.
-The soft effervescence builds a pillowy mouthfeel.

What if you dig deeper?
-The careful aftertaste is herbal, and mostly powdery.
-Few sugars seem to be derived from the malts here; a fruit juice of some kind (pear?) is likely responsible. This sweetness is well-integrated into the structure of the beer.
-This Fantôme-like experiment is certainly an object of curiosity, and could manage to quench both your interest for novelty and your physical thirst.

Bottle; best before 13/01/2007.

Cloudy orange-brown body with a medium beige head. A cool wild, spicy, saison-ish aroma emanates from my glass, the type of aroma I can smell for minutes before taking my first sip. Taste is very much a thick earthy fruit juice with pulp and everything (no particular fruit, a bunch of them), plenty of herbs and spices, saison-ish yeast, and a fruity tartness. Like a drinking body said, I would have believed this was a new Fantôme. Interesting experiment, a bit out-there. Once again a French beer with “Bière De Garde” written on the label when it clearly isn’t one. I’m starting to believe they think “Bière De Garde” is English and means “Made in France”.

Slightly hazy. Amber. Lightly spicy, a little sweet in the finish. Some dusty yeastiness. Nice mellow farmhouse ale - nothing stands out but a very pleasant quaff. The sort of beer if it was local you’d drink a lot of it.

Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye. Clouded banana yellow color. Smells of dusty malts. Some older notes as well. Tastes of sweet grain with flavorful butter. Nice finish that ends in a solid feeling.

Poured a hazy golden color with an off-white head. Lemon wheaty aroma with a yeasty nose. Mild pepper notes. The flavor had a malty start to it but it was short lived. Yeasty spicy finish. Light finish with a light taste overall. Prickly CO2 on the tongue.
