3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 CapFlu (4010) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 8, 2007
(750ml bottle) Sampled at Brouwer’s in Seattle, compliments of Matt Bonney. Pours a lasting creamy white head with a cloudy orange amber body. Nose of funky French yeast, tin, lemon aroma. Smooth, almost grape flavour and very fruity. Bitter finish. Good but somewhat tame by comparison to the style.

Light color with more of a fizz then a head. Very light no real farm house funkness. A bit of sweetness and hops. Very straightforwad.

Bottle from A Southern Season. Looks like a handwritten best by date. 4/16/12. Pours a glowing orange with a large frothy, white head. Nose shows some grain, dusty notes, hay--very malt heavy. Don’t much care for the flavor either. Grainy, dusty, dirty and just not my favorite. Carbonation level is on point, but I just don’t really like the flavor at all. Way too heavy on the malt, in my opinion.

Hazy golden color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of corn, grain, and yeast. Taste is of corn and yeast.

750 ml bottle.
Pours a very hazy waste-water light brown. The aroma is pear with just a touch of grapefruit, dusty hay, and maybe a few other saison-like hints. The flavor disappoints somewhat; it’s dull and mushy, like stewed vegetable broth, nothing really coming into focus, maybe a little bit of tartness here, a touch of sugar-water there, grassy hops coming in, but no order in these flavors as they ebb and flow, leaving the taste as one difficult to grasp and without much redeeming value.

Bottle from the Monk. Nice cloudy copper with huge off white creamy head. Musty aroma with a slight bit of hops. Musty almost moldy taste really just didn’t do it for me.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ChillCoat (1030) - Concord, California, USA - DEC 28, 2005
Bottled. 750ml. Pours murky, light copper color with a whitish hue. Big white head that leaves heavy lacing. Aroma smells like corn or rice with some yeast and coriander-like notes. Thick viscosity but a somewhat watery taste. Spicy with some slight fruit flavors. Somewhat medicinal. Dry, bitter finish that seems out of balance.

Pours a super foamy peaches and cream head atop a hazy tan body that looks vigorously active with carbonation. The nose seems rather thick and soapy with Belgian notes having difficulty in making their way through the dense thicket.Wafer thin body with unsubstantial malting and touches of soapy esters. Hay and hop twang finish.
