From cask at Stockbridge Tap. Pours pitch dark black with a fully gone head. Aroma is roasted malty and towards breadish with a mild spice note. Smooth roasted and breadish flavoured with a mild roasted note.

Cask conditioned handpull at Postal Order, JDW, Worcester. Black, ruby, dark brown edges with thick lasting tan head. Diacetyl and roasted malt aroma. Not my kind of beer at all. Liquourice and diacetyl, I can’t think of worse combi of flavours for me.

12th November 2009 Spoons Fest. Clear very dark brown - red beer. Light just passes through. Light dry palate. A little soft. Very mildly toasted malt with a fruity undertone of subtle blueberries and raspberries. Finishes semi dry adding a little minerals. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Not bad.

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury Beer Fest ’08, recommended by Fin. Black to dark brown with tan head. Initial deep coffee notes with a smooth Chocolate undercurrent, rich with a luscious fruitiness. Smooth and silky, a real belter.

Cask at the Pembury Tavern, November 2009. Very dark, almost black. Dry roasty, malt aroma. Big chocolate throughout. Also plenty of bitterness from a combination of hops and burnt malt. Firm, dry mouthfeel with a lingering bitter chocolate aftertaste. An excellent, tasty stout.

Cask at the London Drinker 2012. Pours brown with a light tan cap. Some milky-mocha notes in the nose. Light sweet flavor with dark malts, mild roast, light burnt wood and light tang. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Smooth. Mildly sweet finish with simple cocoa, roast, ash. It’s a very basic stout, but a decent one at that.

Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are earthy with molasses and roast coffee. Herbal liquorice with some woody notes. Flavours are coffee and herbal with some floral aspects. Dark chocolate bitterness with some woodiness. Peppery on the finish. Soft on the palate and easy drinking. A good session beer.
