[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Treacley brown-black with a yellowy-beige head. Quite sweet at first, with smokey hints, some coffee and lots of cream and crème caramel on a bed of chocolate. Very smooth and silky mouthfeel. Bitterness grows in the finish. The flavours are not as strong as in some stouts, but it’s certainly a smooth, well-balanced example of the genre.

Half-pint, cask at Craft beer Co Brixton, shared with Finn. Ring of bubbles to the rim of the surface. Deep, rosewood coloured body. Dark malty nose with hints of liquorice. Dark, mid-sweet malts in flavour supplied by notes of blackcurrant. Lingering, mild roasted, bitter ending. Pleasing stout (London, 04.11.2012).

Cask dispense into a UK half pint jug at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green, (Feb ’12). Pours to a rich mid black colour with a small off-white/beige head. (Head lasted fairly well throughout drinking!) Dry roasted malt aroma with background smell of bitter chocolate and a tiny whiff of coffee, but definately more cocoa heavy than coffee! Tastes pretty much mirrored the above stated flavours, though I would add a little hint of dried berry fruit in the taste and also quite a sweet flavour (malt bases) that the bitter chocolate smell didn’t indicate! Mouthfeel was a little watery for my liking and not robust enough! Dryish aftertaste. Overall - an OK stout but no world beater !

Spoons Fest. Clear very dark brown - red beer. Light just passes through. Light dry palate. A little soft. Very mildly toasted malt with a fruity undertone of subtle blueberries and raspberries. Finishes semi dry adding a little minerals. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Not bad.

Cask at the London Drinker 2012. Pours brown with a light tan cap. Some milky-mocha notes in the nose. Light sweet flavor with dark malts, mild roast, light burnt wood and light tang. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Smooth. Mildly sweet finish with simple cocoa, roast, ash. It’s a very basic stout, but a decent one at that.

Cask, King’s Head, Carlisle. Beautiful ruby black stout, with a medium roast coffee aroma. Flavours of chocolate, treacle and background blackberry. Soft palate with a faint tingle, beautifully conditioned.

Cask (gravity) - The Fat Cat Brewery Tap/The Cider Shed, Norwich. Loose, fine & bubbly disappearing light tan head; opaque deep brown body. Butter initially on the nose that slowly lessened as did a damp, yeasty note. Otherwise, roast & berry aromas were at the fore. Again, initially buttery on the tongue that gradually subsided making way for light roasty tones, leather & a berry tang at the back. Finished with a lingering, dyrish coffee & roast aftertaste. Mediumish body, soft & creamy mouthfeel/
