Served on cask into an English half jug at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green (Jan ’12).
Copper brown in colour with a thin tan head.
Aroma comes across as vaguely citrus, but not too strong, also malt on the nose.
In the taste, light roasting, slight chocolate, didn’t get any sense of the citrus. A woody/earthy bitter hop taste on the palate.
Medium to light in body with a bitter aftertaste.

Cask at the Market Porter. Deep reddish copper in colour with a thin beige head; rich aroma of roasted malts; silky smooth, with a deeply roasted malt flavour and some hints of chocolate and smoke; the finish is strongly bitter with some citric hops and is prolonged and dry. A satisfying pint.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (7179) - London, ENGLAND - MAR 31, 2011
Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a rich garnet with a tan head. Ripe, dark fruits on the nose. Interesting flavor, lightly sweet, some toasty bread, mild nuts, some roasted malts and cocoa, then some mild citrus bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes dry with some ash, bit of wood and roasted malts, some earthy, herbal hops in the throat. Not too shabby!

Cask-conditioned at the Lord Moon of the Mall (JDW), London 22/03/2011. Dark, reddish brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, berry fruit and chocolate aroma. Flavour had plenty more chocolate and fruit, with some added orange and decent bitter finish. Enjoyable.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2012 Cask. Leicester Beer Festival 2011. Thin off white head, dark brown body. Overwhelming maltiness. Bittersweet. Dry finish. 6 3 6 3 13 ### Cask conditioned. The Postern Gate (JDW), York. Medium off white head. Dark brown body. Chocolate malt, hoppy, fruit, spice. Bitter. Dry finish. Good lacing. Seems like a strong mild to me, as opposed to a bitter that it is currently described as. 6 3 7 3 13

Hand pulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence (JDW), Hatch End. Dark ruby with a lively beige head. Roasty with a good clean bitterness.I didn’t get the citrus hops that other people have discribed. I wouldn’t call it a bitter. Maybe a porter, stout or even a hoppy strong mild! .What ever it is, it’s a very decent pint when in this good a condition.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7254) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2011
Cask (handpump) at the Market Porter on 26 February 2011. Quite dark brown. A bit roasty and chocolaty on the palate. Clean and dry with some decent citric hop character on the palate. Tasty and nicely drinkable. Difficult to place style-wise. An interesting beer.
