Cask, Seasonal, February;
A refreshing dark ale. Not to be mistaken for a stout, citrus hops give a clean and unusually refreshing finish.

Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Poured a dark, ruddy brown with a small though lasting, bubbly-creamy beige head. Nice bit of coffee, toffee and roasted malt. Some chocolate & dark fruits too on the aroma. Toffee & chocolate flavours followed by a dry coffee & roasted malt bitterness & a subtler wash of hop. Medium body, soft palate texture with a surprisingly crisp though lingering finish.

Cask at the Market Porter. Deep reddish copper in colour with a thin beige head; rich aroma of roasted malts; silky smooth, with a deeply roasted malt flavour and some hints of chocolate and smoke; the finish is strongly bitter with some citric hops and is prolonged and dry. A satisfying pint.

Crosse Keys Spoons. Clear brown beer, residual tan head. Light dry palate. Very low carbonation. Some milky sweet malt. Some interesting fruity licquorice flavours in the mid which even out to a sweetish fruity end. Semi dry finish. Nice complex fruits in the dark ale.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a rich garnet with a tan head. Ripe, dark fruits on the nose. Interesting flavor, lightly sweet, some toasty bread, mild nuts, some roasted malts and cocoa, then some mild citrus bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes dry with some ash, bit of wood and roasted malts, some earthy, herbal hops in the throat. Not too shabby!

Cask-conditioned at the Lord Moon of the Mall (JDW), London 22/03/2011. Dark, reddish brown with a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, berry fruit and chocolate aroma. Flavour had plenty more chocolate and fruit, with some added orange and decent bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Hand pulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence (JDW), Hatch End. Dark ruby with a lively beige head. Roasty with a good clean bitterness.I didn’t get the citrus hops that other people have discribed. I wouldn’t call it a bitter. Maybe a porter, stout or even a hoppy strong mild! .What ever it is, it’s a very decent pint when in this good a condition.

Cask (handpump) at the Market Porter on 26 February 2011. Quite dark brown. A bit roasty and chocolaty on the palate. Clean and dry with some decent citric hop character on the palate. Tasty and nicely drinkable. Difficult to place style-wise. An interesting beer.
