Golden coloured and pale. Some dryness in a bitter malt and hop finish. imdownthepub (4250), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Jun 10, 2005 Bottle Conditioned, 500 ml. Rich gold colour with rapidly dissapating head, clear pour. I’m always nervous these days when pouring a Bottle conditione beer from Leek Brewery, I am waiting for the signs of mustiness or the acidic twang of sourness. Neither in this case, but the beer still lacked character with a tobacco ash hop and sucrose sweetness the only redeeming feature was a fruitiness on the finish. johndoughty (1692), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Mar 18, 2005 I first rated this in August 2004 when the cloudiness when poured from the bottle was my main comment. This cloudiness was not so obvious this time but it was still there.Overall this was a rather poor slightly sour beer with a bitter edge. SilkTork (3950), Rochester, Kent, England Jun 28, 2004 Bottle conditioned Golden Ale. BBE Nov 04. Pleasant. Soft red grapefruit flavours. Golden Ales are tricky beers to bottle - the aromatic hops tend to suffer. Tastes better with the yeast stirred in and then allowed to settle for an hour. rauchbier (2877), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Jun 27, 2004 Bottle conditioned, from Fabeers in York. Faintly hazy gold, thin white head and low condition. Low peach and some hops in the nose, but with an underlying infected yeast note. Much more hop flavour and some fruity malt in the mouth but still with an infected edge that maybe wouldnt be so obvious to anyone who hasn’t had to ditch a fermenter full of bad beer. Hop bitter and yeasty dry in the finish. Interesting enough to warrant a re rate from another batch.
