peter48er (82), Liverpool, Merseyside, England Aug 31, 2008 Bottle conditioned. The beers name very effectively describes its deep coluor on pouring. Despite being 3 months beyond its best before end date it was lively with a good head.Dark, almost burnt. malt taste with some sweetness and little bitterness. A most acceptable ale. johndoughty (1692), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Mar 23, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown and poured very flat. Smokey but a bit thin. Better bottled than a lot of their beers I have tried in the past. All round nicer than I had expected. cgarvieuk (2614), Edinburgh, Scotland Apr 2, 2007 Lovely Dark red colour, malty biscuity nose, and a rich dark malt flavour, with slightly bitter finish DJMonarch (4091), Northwich, Cheshire, England Feb 8, 2006 Cask Stillage at the Paradise Brewery BAr, Wrenbury 04/07/2003
Dark red coloured strong in alcohol and fruity. Poured lively. Slightly bitter roast finish. JonMoore (1551), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Oct 16, 2005 Bottle. Very dark brown with a large reddish/brown head. Visibly highly carbonated. Roasted malty and caramel aroma with a hint of sourness. Same for the taste, although the sourness is more marked. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, bitter finish. Pretty nice.
