Commercial Description:
The traditional bière de garde was a hearty solid beer that was fit for storing to use as compensation to farmhands instead of gold. After a long day in the Leelanau sun we would rather get paid in this beer than gold. Good Harbor Golden celebrates its magnificent appeal as a stoic, solid, quiet-type ale. Because the beer spends so long in the oak it won’t be ready for the public until sometime in May.

cloudy yellow pour with a thin white head. Strong oak and yeast aroma. Flavor was more of the same, a bit of vinager and some tannins. Finishes acidic, well done.

Bottle. Pours a murky golden color with a minimal white head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is of mild oak, cherries, hops, yeast, and grain. Taste starts off with lots of oak and tart cherries, followed by yeast, hops, grain, and acidic citrus. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Very refreshing with a nice sour bite. Again for these Leelanua beers, it’s good but not $12 good.

Light hazy yellow color. Sharper on the nose than others. Tart. I kept coming back to this one at AlohaCs tasting. Thanks to WeeHeavy(I think).

Straw coloured and cloudy. Nose of pediococcus, wood and a little brett. Taste is pedio, wood, brett, too. Hint of tartness...fun stuff...not too different from other soury funky American experiments but I like it.

Bottle... Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8... Hazy, straw-colored ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Decent retention. The aroma is tart with notes of pale grains and spent mash. Medium to full-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Tangy, tart flavor. Crisp, acidic finish. Thanks to JMFG for providing the bottle!

An interesting beer, for sure. Brightly colored golden-hue. Frothy white head with a very active rising of bubbles. Quite musty and heavily cellared. Not too sweet at all. Tart and has a Belgian/pilsner qualities to it that make it quite unique.

Poured a hazy golden color with a medium sized white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, oak, vanilla, wild yeast, citrus, and apple. Taste of citrus, green apple, oak, vanilla, and a lightly sour finish.
