Also sold as Blanche de Quenast in Dia/Ed supermarkets, as Floreffe Wit for Floreffe Abbey, as Mediterranea for the Italian market, as Blanche de Francorchamps, as t Geheim van de Smit, as Manneken Pis, and as L’Alsacienne Blanche de l’Eté.
Ingredients: Malted barley; wheat (40%); coriander; bitter orange peel; sugar; hops; yeast.
Blanche de Bruxelles owes its natural cloudiness to the large percentage (40 %) of wheat that goes into its composition. The natural spice aromas of coriander and bitter orange peels are added during the brewing process. The brewing method, which includes infusion, is very slow. The beer, which is not filtered, is bottled and refermented with yeast and brewing sugar. You need only take a sip of this delicious drink to appreciate the fresh and mellow flavour with its hint of orange. It is really not like any other beer. Always served chiled, between 3°C and 6°C.

On tap as Blanche de Bruxelles at Small Bar- Division, Chicago. Very light bodied and fizzy. Very easy to gulp down-- but doesn’t quite hit the spot in November in Chicago. Nothing special here. Put it back on tap in May.

The aroma was yeasty and fruity with a pronounced wheat presence through the tall moussy head. Lemon and Orange citrus notes wafted from the brew as the head fell back. A light spice also lurked underneath the long lasting head. The beer poured into the glass hazy pale straw with a magnificent head stand and glass lacing. The flavor was light and citrusy with lemon and orange most notable coupled to a moderate wheat base and a very light bit of spice, coriander. The finish was dry with lasting citrus and a very light tartness into the aftertaste. The body was not quite medium and the carbonation somewhat high. When coupled to the wheat presence the beer was creamy and a bit fizzy on the palate. A very easy to consume beer, but a lacking in depth of character. 11.2 ounce bottle. Blanche de Bruxelles.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 Very nice witbier aroma, attractive. Clean and rather tart in the olfactory. Terrific unfiltered wheat beer pour, looks good. Straw coloerd, more beige than yellow. Hypnotizing and swirling. Very thin creamy head. Friendly easy and nice tasting. Witbiers are one of my favorite styles and this is no exception. Just a tad of what I perceive to be bitter, but perhaps it is more on the tart side. Fine tingly carbonation. An enjoyable brew, glad I got to taste this. Finish is not offensive nor bitter. Probably a good session brew. Really nice.

THOUGHTS: At first it seemed pretty good, but then it became very watery in flavor. I think it was just good at first because I hadn’t had a beer in a week. Nat an awful beer, but a pretty bad wit. Not recommended. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, light yellow with great carbonation and an average to large, rocky, white head that lasted awhile and left excellent lacing. It looked great, but not for a wit. The aroma was moderate doughy yeast, lemon and a little wheat. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter, liightly acidic and a little sour with an average duration. It tasted like a watered down wit. The flavor had wheat, light lemon and a little spice. The light body was watery and slightly dry with lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish, if anything.

Tap @ Monk’s Cafe, Philadelphia, as Blanche de Bruxelles. Pours a cloudy golden color with a frothy white head. Aroma is slight citrus with wheat and yeast characteristic. Taste is largely the same with a watery characteristic as well. Not my favorite of this style.

Had this as Blanche de bruxelles: Muddy piss yellow with a white creamy lasting head. Fruity, wheat, yeast - very sweet aroma. Soft & smooth mouthfeel. A bit thin palate. Wheat, coriander & sugar. Good lacings. Too sweet a witbier for me personally.!

Draft. Body-straight up lemonade with a medium ring of bubbles. Nose-lotion and mild triple notes; hard to discern because of all the f’ing wind on this patio. Taste-You know those awful day-glow orange “Circus Peanuts”? It tastes like that. And marshmallows, cheap Halloween candy, very soft mouthfeel in a good way, has a fake, cheap taste but it isn’t too awful, big fruity medicine like esters, cottony, very dry, light dry citric finish. Overall odd but not terrible. Very vinous dry, and citric, apple.

Bottle (Blance de Bruxelles). Musty sour milk aroma. Cloudy pale yellow color with large head. Slightly sweet orange-lemon wheat malt flavor - light musty flavor with moderate acidity. Excellent witbier.
