HogTownHarry (3361), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2005 Updated: Sep 8, 2005 Bottle (330ml). At Volo. Poured a slightly hazy deep dark cola red-brown, very bubbly with a huge creamy-foamy light tan head - amazing drapes of spidery, sticky lacing left behind. Aroma of sweet dark roasted malt, brown sugar, raisins, off-dry white wine, apples, pears and a cheerful fresh muffin yeastiness. Flavour followed the nose, with some anise, hot caramel fudge and plums coming in; very sweet, but it opened up with a little bitterness at the end of the glass, either hops or alcohol, couldn’t really say. Mouthfeel was slightly stick, and a touch thin. Very enjoyable, a nice sweet not too strong brune/dubbel.

Nekronos (2017), Xalapa, Mexico Nov 20, 2008 NOrmally I would think the doule is a little clear but this was te opposite, as superb, nothing to do witht he tripple one and it is almost as good. Sigmund (2006), Hafrsfjord, Norway Oct 31, 2008 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.3%. Very dark brown colour, big beige head. The aroma has some unpleasant notes of stale chocolate and stale berries, also notes of anise. The flavour is moderately sweet and slightly fruity with notes of anise and malts. The anise seems entirely misplaced in a dubbel. This is not a beer for me. Skidds (214), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 24, 2008 Poured a dense dark brown with an off-white almost brown head. Aroma and flavour were primarily of dark fruits, nuts, chocolate and spices. The finish was quite spicy. Glad to have tried it. ogivlado (2478), Zagreb, Croatia Aug 31, 2008 Bottled(330ml). -Reddish pale brown coloured, small off-white head, discreet malty nose. Light roasted malt, caramel and dark fruits with notes of chocolate and nuts. Also few licorice hints. Mild alcoholic rather dry finish. St Feuillien Brune is much better but this is still good abbey dubbel.
