3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled (BB 04/2008).
Very dark ruby color, huge cloudy tan head. Aroma of berries and licorice. Medium to full bodied. Licorice dominates the flavour, but there is also some sweeter berry-like notes. Aftertaste is a bit salty, alcohol and bitterness rise there too. Some way similar to Het Anker products. One step forward from the middle-of-the road brunes of Belgia.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 30 Sep) Dark brown colour with ruby notes, beige head. Malty, sweetish nose with dark fruit. Malty, sweet taste with caramel, syrup, molasses, vanilla and some well balanced spicy hops coming through in the finish. (Dr Pepper was the word I was looking for, thanks bu11zeye.) Balanced, not very complex, a bit too sweet, but enjoyable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a super huge off-white foamy head with perfect retention. Aroma of sweet malt with some light spices (which may include some pepper and some anis). Taste is quite sweet probably from the candi sugar with some spices. Hops are clearly quite subtle and even the yeast is subdued (I would have preferred if it could have brought more character to this beer. Body is above average but could be a bit more full. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall, a very good Belgian ale and probably one of the finest product from this brewer.
