mephisto (1099), Taiwan Apr 26, 2008 this brew just gave me a scare, the stopper hit the roof after i unwired it. other than that it’s a nice belgian, sweet malt aroma that is spicy and caramelly accompanies the dark copper hued appearance. the flavor is fruity and chocolatey with lingering sweet finish.
amish_caravan (209), Winona, Minnesota, USA Sep 4, 2008 scent is of spices and fermented fruit with a little molasses as well. taste is a little bit spicy and has tones of fruit and molasses. mouthfeel is nice with average carbonation. finish is pretty smooth. nice brew. Ober (302), Best, Netherlands Sep 1, 2008 A dark brown colored beer, with a big beige foamed head. The aroma of dark caramel, with a little chocolate notes and some dark fruits. The taste of dark fruits, like raisins and strawberries. Dark malts and a little sweet in the back. Also in the aftertaste some sweet notes. A good beer. vyvvy (1689), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 22, 2008 Pours very dark brown with a dark crimson hue and a small tan head. The aroma has caramel, dates, biscuit milkiness, ice cream malt and candi sugar. This reminds me a bit of Des Roc Grand Cru and Brune. Medium / thick body with medium carbonation. The flavor starts with the aroma traits with a bit of spice an milk chocolate added. the finish has a LOT of star anise presence. And very well constructed BSA. Borresteijn (542), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 19, 2008 Very dark brown beer, beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, malts and chocolate, a bit musty. Flavour is very soft and sweet, malty, dark chocolate, ripe fruits. Nice slightly bitter finish. Creamy and soft mouthfeel. Very good beer! thegreenrooster (1487), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 15, 2008 Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is very musty and earthy with some candi sugar and dark fruit. Flavor is some burnt brown sugar and dark fruit with a little vinegar. Finish is no problem as the flavors are somewhat dulled as this goes down. Still this is a somewhat tasty Belgian and something to at least try for the aroma alone.
