Rated on 6-28-2011 (Corked and caged bottle) The appearance is a small frothy, fizzy tan head with a lengthy retention, hazy brown body, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, sweet and fruity. The taste is sweet, some alcohol, caramel malt, and dark fruits. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. While this is a good beer, it is not a beer I can drink a lot of at one sitting. Something about the flavor is amiss but I cannot detect what it is. It is still worth trying.

Pours a beautiful deep black color, covered with generous dark tanned head with solid retention. There are some sweet fruits in the aroma, together with some interesting spices. The taste is surprisingly weak and watery. Some spices along some roasty feel, no realy bitterness. Too bad, promises much more than delivered.

sulawang (541) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 18, 2014
Visual: Pours cloudy cola brown with a massive creamy-foamy head, good retention, lots of steady streams. Nose: Caramel malt, brown sugar, honey, minor alcohol detection (7/10-pungency) Attack: sharp-heavy sugar hit Mid-palate: (9/10)-cola sweetness, creamy-fizzy mouthfeel, (MAIN) caramel malts, brown sugar, honey, cola (star anise/clove) Finish: minor hopped bitter/mainly malty sweet finish. Summary: A very full and sweet beer, quite a typical Belgian Strong Ale. Not outstanding but no slouch either.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A dark brown - nearly black - beer with a large white-off beer. Medium persistence. Aroma of fruit (red currant), caramel, alcohol, liquorice, fresh hay. Heavy refreshing bitterness with medium sweetness. Medium body and texture. Warming sweet finish. Overall, a great experience : powerful and delicious aroma. I will share this one with good friends.

Bottle via rare beer club (thanks to my Aunt MP). Pours a beautiful, golden hazy body with thick, carbonated white lacing. Aroma is spice, wheat, light alcohol and perfume. Mouthfeel is bitter and spicy with notes of wheat, bitter lemon, spice, alcohol and yeast.

A nice little treat from after4ever. Dubbel looking pour with a nose of darker fruits meddled with a touch of spice. Flavors are fairly similar with a hints of caramel and raisins. Thanks Tom!

glennmastrange (2145) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 23, 2014
Bottle. Moderate dark bread and milk chocolate for the malt, light to moderate herbs and cooked orang for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with notes of raisin, date, fig and brown sugar. Head is large creamy, off-white withgood lacing and is mostly lasting. Color isvery dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, texture is hidden by the fizzy carbonationa and has a dry finish. A huge mix of died fruit in this tasty Belgian Strong Ale.

Small bottle. Pours brown, off-white head. Nose is caramel in the forefront with some dark fruit and slight spices. Flavour is same, Coca Cola/dubbel spiciness. Strong Dark Belgians have many components, you’re usually getting different balances of roughly the same combination of flavours, here the balance is toward the caramel sweetness. Not a classic for me, but good stuff.
