3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Orange-golden in color and with a dense, off-white head leaving lacings. Citrusy aroma, oranges mostly, with some oxidized malts and a touch of caramel. There’s quite a lot of bitterness in the flavor, with some alcohol, grass and hops. Oxidation notes, pale malts and some white sugar. Full body, soft carbonation, rather dry. Long, bitter and grassy finish. Not really sure about this one. Some of it good, but mostly it’s rather bland. 150522

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2015 Last year’s version of Lefêbvre’s (now) most renowned beer, with rocky, very thick, very dense and very stable, moussy, yellowish white head, very firmly lacing; and clear ’old gold’ colour with quiet sparkling, misty light orange with deposit. Aroma of Granny Smith apple, freshly baked white bread, unripe pear, the white bottom side of orange peel, cookie dough, rosé champagne, overripe gooseberries, freshly cut grass, cooked and sugared rhubarb, freshly baked apple cake, suggestions of vanilla extract, honey, pine resin-based bath foam, white raspberry, gin, biscuit and a suspiciously heavy amount of candi sugar. Taste kicks off with a combination of sweet, pear- and gooseberry-like fruit sweetness along with a refreshing, green apple- and unripe plum-like sourness; fairly strong carbo, a bit minerally, with a smooth but ’full’ body, revealing bittering hints already in the middle; acetaldehyde is all around. Becomes hoppier and more bittering towards the finish with leafy, earthy, grassy, somewhat peppery, very long and deep ’English’ hop bitterness, persisting bready and honeyish malt sweetness and a fair deal of warming, ’jonge jenever’-like alcohol; bit yeasty, if not doughy, as well. Hoppy alright, but in a more restrained way than I hoped for even though I have to acknowledge the duration of the hop bitterness is clearly above average here; another ’tripel hop’ trying to build a bridge between the hoppier Belgian tripels and the true IPAs. By itself an enjoyable beer, the sweet biscuit smell was a bit over the top for me though, and I just wish Belgian (family) brewers had the guts to come up with ’real’ IPAs or DIPAs. Somewhat overcarbonated as well. Still, enjoyable alright, with that long bitter aftertaste and warming ’jenever’-like glow which typifies so many strong Belgians.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light golden color and slightly opaque body with fine bubbles and slow climb. A rich White Cream, good retention and numerous fine bubbles. Foam cup ties adhere to the body along the tasting.
The Belgian yeast aroma shows its face and is accompanied fortunately fine Hop flowers dominated by citrus notes, white pepper, powerful malts and white bread.
A small pickle yeast is perceived and reflected in an interesting way.
In a very well balanced bitterness with crisp lemon and mint notes. Complementing the flavor could enjoy a very slight woody together with white fruits, bananas, maybe? The alcohol is well integrated with your body and flavor.
Its aftertaste is quite spicy with a hop background.
A beautiful seasonal beer in line with the Duvel triple hop or hops Chouffe, this Opus is considerably less intense in flavor than the ones mentioned above, but still holds the fray.
A beautiful Lager brewed with fresh hops between January and April. Being available for consumption between March and June this version 2014 rating 8.3% ABV.
Worth much be tasted.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Goudgeel en nevelig met een flinke en dikke, witte schuimkraag. Aroma is hoppig, verder gist, citrus, brood. Bitter, licht zoet. Ondanks de levendige co2 toch vrij zacht in de mond. Plakkerige textuur, vrij volle body.
