Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Oct 5, 2009 Serving: 330 ml bottle.
Appearance: Clear gold with a large, pillowy, white head. Very good head retention.
Aroma: Very yeasty with notes of spicy clove, some banana, and a touch of solvent.
Flavor: Bubble gum and banana are the two most dominate flavors with notes of honey, yeast, and some candy sweetness. A bit on the over sweet side in my mind.
Palate: Medium-high carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium short, sweet finish.
Overall: A Belgian for the masses that is overly sweet and lacks the subtle nuances of the finer examples in it’s class. Still, it isn’t terrible by any means and certainly is a good standby when nothing better is around. DeputyAndy (60), New Jersey, USA Oct 3, 2009 Pours a clear honey colour with plenty of white foamy head. Slightly malty nose. Very straightforward, smooth blond that is incredibly easy to drink. Not a complex or noteworthy beer, but almost sessionable. glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2009 Tap. Light grain note for the malt, light to moderate perfume for the hops, light soap for the yeast and hints of wine, clove and wood. Head is small, fizzy white with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation and lightly alcoholic finish. A little simple, but the interesting spiciness makes this a unique Belgian Ale. Gypsy19 (602), California, USA Oct 1, 2009 Pours a clear neon orange with a large white head. Aroma is spicy, sour, and fruity all at the same time. Flavor has a little fruit and spice, creamy, with a rotten garbage finish. The alcohol is way too present for 6.6%. Not bad, just noticeably flawed. Light, watery mouthfeel. Could use a little more carbo. Overall, good minus. sound67 (157), Offenbach, Germany Sep 30, 2009 75cl corked bottle. Deep golden colour, big, soapy white head. Sweet fruit (banana and oranges) and yeast on the nose. Medium to low carbonation, oily mouthfeel. Very sweet taste at first, again of banana and yeast. Higher alcohol content is noticeable but well integrated - at least as long as your Leffe is cold! Spicy herbal flavours kick in as you keep drinking, with a more bitter finish and a slightly dry aftertaste. My advice: Finish your bottle as long as the beer is cold - because as it warms up, the sweetness and the herbal touches become overpowering and quite synthetic. For people who like their brew strong and sweet, this is actually a very drinkable beer - which is why it has proven to be so popular. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Sep 24, 2009 Bottle at The Spitfire, Stockholm.
A quite nice style typical aroma. The taste is way to sweet and the mouthfeel almost syrupy JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 23, 2009 Clear gold/light amber pour with off-whte head. Sugar, artificial banana, yeast, and some musty malt. It’s not terrible, it’s just a poorly made belgian ale. mbuisman79 (133), Amsterdam, Netherlands Sep 22, 2009 Best of the Leffe’s. Had this one in a bottle but on tap it’s even better. There seems to be some inconsistency. Sometimes it’s great, other times not so much. Must be the glassware or age perhaps. Overall it’s a great one.
