beezz86 (68), Jasper, Indiana, USA Feb 21, 2008 Bottle. Poured out with a nice clear, golden color with good head. Had a banana spice aroma. Based on the smell, I was expecting a better tasting beer. It wasn’t terrible, just not what I was expecting from the aroma. Overall, I could drink this beer, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it. FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Feb 20, 2008 I first tried this beer in Brussels Belgium and then came back to the states and couldn’t find it. About 8 months later a small independant supermarket near me (Acquistipaces) started stocking it in bottles and a short time later a local pub (Columbia Street Tap Room) started carrying it on draft. It has one of the prettiest blonde colors I’ve ever seen. Medium yellow with the slightest hint of red. Almost a "strawberry blonde" color. On first sip, the taste is downright startling. The first sip made me blink. Not in a negative way, but with surprise. Its got a powerfull buttered-toast-with-some-exotic-fruit-jelly-on-it sort of taste that I wasn’t expecting. But... a few sips later and I’m saying, "Damn! It’s good though!" The mouth feel is thick and creamy. The aftertaste is carmel/chocolate, almost like when you’ve recently finished a candy bar. A really, really uniqe tasting brew, and very good! ZiggyG (131), Gladstone, Oregon, USA Feb 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours perfectly clear gold, very filtered. Short fizzy white head. Lively carbonation from the center of the chalice. Smell is biscuits and yeast with some fruity/vinous tones. Taste is harsh at first almost metallic. After allowing to warm to almost room temp it acquires an almost buttery yeasty flavor that isn’t disagreeable but isn’t especially good either. Mouth feel is medium full and lively. Not terrible but I expect more out of a Belgian. nuplastikk (1157), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 16, 2008 11.2oz bottle. Honey golden color, filtered. Deliciously sweet and creamy, with nice yeast character. Lovely honey-floral aroma. Light candi sugar flavors come through. Moderate alcohol isn’t overwhelming but certainly makes itself known. A great standard Belgian beer. Poobah (101), New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Feb 16, 2008 Sweet floral aroma. Golden color with great head initially that fades quickly. Malty intro that transitions smoothly with light carbonation into a clover honey aftertaste. The alcohol reveals itself early on but is not a detriment. My wife actually likes this beer and I do too. Now, if I can only find the Brune version... ILduce (133), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 16, 2008 Bottle in namesake chalice: Golden-amber under a nice head; nice lacing. Fruity aroma with good strong hops...some almonds. Tastes slightly bitter with well-rounded alcoholic feel. Malty with traces of sour-apple. Flavourfully warming on the palate...what abbey ale is a ll about. Derek881 (486), Frederick, Maryland, USA Feb 13, 2008 I had this beer poured into a trappist glass in Brussels. It had a clear, darker gold color with a medium-sized, foamy white head that featured average to good retention. The aroma was sweet grapes and some malt, with a bit of citrus hops. It tasted more sour than I expected, but still had some sweetness too, and just a touch of bitterness. A wet, fuller body with tingly, ample carbonation. A very solid beer. VitaminR (421), Colorado, USA Feb 10, 2008 Updated: May 20, 2008Nutty, doughy, and banana nose. Rich gold in color, crystal clear. Great complexity and balance, very enjoyable. A Belgian session beer.
