3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2004 Lovely deep blonde colour topped of with a nice white head, although smaller than expected. Also expected a fruity aroma, but it seemed to smell a bit like burnt toast with a hint of fruit.
Taste feels much like an extension of the aroma with a short but pleasant aftertaste.
Re-rate: this is a posers abbey. Filtered, thin on the palate, comparably.

Nice blond color with moderately sized white head. But I enjoy beers thicker, like my women.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tastes like many other Belgian beers, but I liked this one more than most. It's not too strong and overpowering like some other Belgians that I've had. Nice aroma and color. I could drink this all night. A slightly lower than average ABV for a Belgian beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark yellowish brew with a nice foamy head. I taste the usual belgium spice but still less present then I would have hope for. This beer is also less hearthy then I would have liked. I guess this is a good introduction to belgium brew but not up to the level of a great brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bright yellow-gold with a foamy white head. Fruity aromas of sweet pale malts. I tried one that had a bit of skunkiness to it, but wasn't present in later tastings. Follows through with sweet malty flavors where spicy hop flavors give this enough bitterness to keep this in balance. Overall, pretty decent and delicious.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2004 Re-rate (19-Mar-04): Fruit and sweet malt in aroma with noticeable clove nose. Deep golden colour with thick, dense white head that recedes with good lacing. Nice malt flavour with a sweet finish and overtones of vanilla. Swwet aftertaste lingers. Creamy mouthfeel with medium-light body. A very drinkable beer. Bottle.
Original rating (7-Sep-03): 5-1-6-2-12=2.6 Noticeable fruity aroma. Head somewhat weak. Buttery-bronze colour and very clear (it's a belgian ale, it shouldn't be clear??). Must be filtered and obviously not refermented in the bottle. Pleasant enough flavour with lots of fruit and mild spiciness. Malt and vanilla come through in the finish along with some late bitterness. Has a very carbonated mouthfeel apparent at the sides of the tongue which is incongruous with the lack of head but all in all has a moderate fullness in the mouth. Perhaps not exactly to style but a very drinkable beverage.

A pleasant surprise. Draft, in Leffe glass. Sort of a light amber color, good head retention throughout. The aromas was a bit on the spicy side. Flavor was clean, a touch sweet, but not cloying. The earthy flavors grabbed my attention, combined with a woodsy floral finish. This was superlative with a spicy lamb sausage penne dish.
