4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2004 Second review 9/19/04
I had a few of these babies in Spain this summer, and, well, it is not the most Belgian of beers, but I find it quite drinkable and smooth. Upgraded.
Served in a 330cl bottle. Smelled like a Belgian beer -- kind of rich and somewhat fruity and malty, but the taste was very light and fairly indistinctive. It has an amber color and the head poured pretty full, but died soon after. The carbonation was light and the mouth feel nice. It had a pleasant finish with a small hint of hops. A drinkable beer, but not a great representation of a Belgian beer.

This beer was very similar to the Affligem. The only discernible difference between the two was the aroma. The Leffe was a bit more bitter smelling. The taste was sweet on the back of the tongue and the head was thin out of the bottle.

gold color, darker than ’blond’ might suggest. wheaty aroma, lemon, some malt and yeast. disappointing taste of wheat and yeast, not much complexity apart from the malt and yeast. not a beer that i’ll drink again soon...

The Belgians do have a certain way with beer. Nice, sweet, tasty flavour. A change from lagers, good variation.

bottle. pours a semi clear dark yellow with a giant fluffy white head. butter and yeast aroma. belgian light is the phrase that comes to mind. small intricate flavors hit my tongue: raisin, pepper, and toffee. nice bit of bitter on the finish.

Bottle. Gold with a very thick foamy white head. Smells like clove and banana. Very mild Belgian taste. The banana flavor that I don’t like is there, but it is somewhat subdued. This is nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Great big head of fine bubbles. Decent carbonation with good lacing. Nice aroma of wheat, spices and yeast with a touch of fruit. Color is a medium golden orange. Flavor is weak and mellow but decent. Soft mouthfeel with a slightly sour flavor. Good helping of malts and a bit of spice. Finish is slightly dry and leaves a thin film in the mouth. An ok belgian but nothing special.

bottle. Gold color with nice white head. Seems good for drinking while tossing some horseshoes or other summer related activity. Nothing outstanding but a good beer
