3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: The smell is sweet caramel, candid sugar, bitter oranges and sour lemons and curdled milk. Some dried grass as well.
Appearance: This beer is a clear amber brew, a thick off-white head leaving quite some lacing.
Taste: The taste is mostly sweet, toffee and syrup, some orange sourness, bitter aromas - like fruit seeds.
Palate: Rather good carbonation, a smooth feeling.
Overall: The sweetness puts this beer out of the thirst-quenching domain, better to go with spiced food or as an appetizer.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Subtle pine, hops and malt aromas. Pours honey-gold and clear with a slightly rocky white head. Not overpowering complex tastes of slight sour, next sweet malty, light long sour finish. Lively carbonation. A drinkable Belgian.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
The classic one. In most french bars you got the choice between this or heineken. In bottle tends to make much foam. Cloying swetness and yeast flavours. I used to regard this has a good option but times are changing

During one of my many trips to Belgium, I had the privilege of escorting a young couple to places like De Dolle, Alvinne and Struise. After all those, we stopped at a beerside bar in Gent (you know the one) and the young lady ordered this, which we all tried. Her opinion, unsolicited, was that it tasted lifeless and dull after all the other fine beers we had, and I must heartily agree - light, watery, subtle in both flavor and aroma.. However, I was pleasantly surprised to read in the description that this is an "abbey beer," so on my next trip to Belgium I must look for the Leffe Abbey.
