3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - nice rich head and pours a clear amber that absolutely sparkles. It is visually a beautiful beer. Taste is smooth but complex with a slightly sharp start that finishes very rounded and rich. Much more substance than appearance suggests. Quite nice.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. pours a clear amber, with a large fluffy head that slowly fades. Good lacing. Nose is Belgian yeast, cloves, bananas, etc. Taste is smooth, with notes of clove and bananas. Mouth feel is creamy, with a long, pleasant finish. Quite good, and a typical Belgian abbey ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled on draught in Nice. This beer is everywhere here, in practically every restaurant and bar. It has a golden colour with a compact white head. The aromas are very fruity and spicy - dried orange peel, ripe banana, dried apples and cloves. The taste is similar, with hints of bubblegum and tobacco. An intensely flavoured beer with a good mouth feel. Not much in the way of hop taste, but that does not seem to detract from this popular blond abbey beer.

Halmgul med fin krona. Banan och jäst i doften. Smakar omedelbart bred "belgiskt" sött med underliggande karamelltoner. Lång "brödig" eftersmak. Schmeckt gut!

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
The ultimate, ubiquitous blonde abbey beer, tasted from tap and from the regular 33 cl bottles several times, but for this rating I pour it from a 50 cl can - right after having swallowed its brown older brother from the same type of packing. In existence since 1967, I’m willing to admit this is a kind of classic in the category of medium-strength blonde abbey beers, but I am equally certain it has changed an awful lot since then. The present-day version shows a thinnish, off-white, finely structured but quickly opening head and a clear ’old gold’ colour with practically no visible sparkles. Aroma does not invite me to have a taste: cooked cauliflower as expected, biscuit, old and dried cake, cigarette tobacco, honey, dried apricot, iron but strangely a bit less strong than the brown version, truckloads of cooked corn, something sulphuric not unlike melting plastic, candied orange, dry cookies, vanilla. Taste begins with a fake sweet fruitiness, apricot and apple, some orange peel but not very convincing, very rounded and slick mouthfeel, medium to strong, minerally carbonation, honeyish sweetness in the middle with lots of cooked corn - a thing I thoroughly hate in pale lagers, and I’m beginning to think this is one - evolving into a finish which hardly is worth to be called a ’finish’, plastic-like solvents abound, sweetness sticks a bit, hops are very subdued, and the worst part of it is that the alcohol, though not really wry, is noticeable, which should not be the case in a beer of 6,6% ABV. Chemical, disgustingly sweet in an artificial way and a bit alcoholic: I suspect this is not even a true Belgian ale, but rather a pimped ’strong’ and sugared lager. As with its dark counterpart, I refuse to accept this, its historical influence notwithspoken. Wish I had a time machine to go and taste one in the late sixties - probably only to mourn the fact that this has become a diffuse shadow of its own self. Or did people already like it in this form in those days? By the way: I’m having this after a Heelch o’Hops by Anderson Valley, as I suspected this would take less concentration to be analyzed closely, and I’m happy the artisanal hoppiness of it still penetrates through this Leffe Blonde - as I cannot find any true hoppiness in it from itself. Stop buying InBev’s merchandizing tricks, and stop buying this abomination!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Golden beer, no head to speak of. Fruity aroma of banana, apples, some bubblegum. Bittersweet, malty taste, with lots of spice, very intense. Medium finish with hints of bubblegum and spices. Medium body.
Overall a very nice beer, that probably gets underrated by many due to its very broad distribution, as is the case with many beers on this site.

Klart guldfärgat öl med stor vit skumkrona. Fräsch doft av jäst, bröd, malt, smått fruktig och smaken likaså. Riktigt bra smak med en lagom styrka och fyllighet. Ingen "wow" öl men riktigt bra! Flaska från Systembolaget.
