3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A co-worker of mine found a bottle of this in his basement from his trip to Europe in the mid-90's. The date on the bottle said 12/97, so this has aged in his dark basement along with a small bottle of hoegaarden white for about 6-7 years. He was willing to trade me these beers for a bottle of my homebrew. I wasn't sure who got the better deal until I tried it. Suprisingly, this beer was still intact. It poored amber colored with a little head that quickly disappeared. The lacing on the glass was significant and the aroma was of licorice and pepper. The medium-bodied mouthfeel led to a taste that was predominantly licorice with a fruity, tingly-sweet finish. I have never tasted a fresh bottle of this beer, but when I do I will re-rate. It was just interesting to try an aged belgain.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a can bought at a convenience store at le Plaza in Brussels. Pours clear gold. Aroma is light sparkling golden ale notes, with some Belgium fruitiness that is light and refreshing and no off putting. Finish is a little sharp and Belgium yeasty. A beer that defines the style.

0.33l bottle. Golden color with thin white head. Aroma of spices and banana. Aftertaste is sweet like banana and very pleasant. Almost as good as leffe brune.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle courtesy of my dad.
This is a prototypical banana-and-clove Belgian ale. Big fluffy head. A bit on the sweet side though I suppose this matches up well with the whole banana esters thing. Hops barely apparent. I like my Belgian blond ales drier and hoppier, thank you.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Drank out of, in fact. I have had this a few times before, it’s not the best. I was on a boat on this occasion and it was the only beer available. The flavour has notes of orange and spice, mainly clove. It’s a very carbonated beer. Not my favourite blond ale.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Een iets steviger blond bier, valt bij heel veel mensen in de smaak. Maar ik hou meer van een bier met iets meer body

Nice golden colored beer with a well balanced taste and a good palate. Not rich in aromas.
