2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33cl bottle. Very minimal transparency, almost opaque dark brown/black with tiny hints of a reddish brown shining through with light. Tan head with solid tan lacing. The nose is very fruity, cranberry, cherry, bakers chocolate, wet forest floor- itís quite earthy, some minimal fig, no alcohol on the nose. A little bit of sweetness on the tasting initially with the carbonation and bitterness taking over the finish, quite smooth on the palate. Medium-bodied,t a little oily for the style. A medium-lasting finish with an average-lively carbonation. I prefer the blond and even the royale by Leffe, glad to have tried this, but Iíd look elsewhere because there are greater dubbels much more readily available.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Drink cool 8-10įC
Eye: Pours a dark coffee-brown colour with a big beige not too quickly dissipating head and nice medium carbonation.
Nose: dark fruit, raisins, dates, yeast, cran- and other berries.
Mouth: coffee, raisins again, malts, caramel perhap, hops as well. not as fruity as in the nose but in a good way. creamy texture.
Palate: coffee, yeast, slightly roasted nuts.
Overall: nice brune beer. donít drink too cold! i actually prefer this one over the blonde. i really like the fact that it isnít as strong as other belgian-style beers.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle served around 12 degrees in a calice:
Pours quite a black robe showing fiery bronze highlights. The creamy head is beige expands to about a finger or so and retains moderately leaving a rough lacing.
The nose is pleasant and offers roasted malts, caramel and some spice.
On the tongue, the ale is sweet with hints of chocolate and caramel and good toasted nuts. The hops take over to let it finish slightly bitter and dry. Mouthfeel is light and just a bit sharp.
I like this brown ale because I think it is a good beginnerís belgian ale. Anyone unfamiliar with the style will easily be able to enjoy its moderate complexity. I would best describe it as an everyday belgian brown ale.

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

Caramel and toasted malt aroma.
On the palate, it is very balanced (bitterness/sweet).
It is a great dubbel!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma of soured dark fruits, confectioners sugar and a hint of toffee. A wonderful deep brown beer with a lasting lace on my Westmalle chalice. Flavor is sweet dark fruits, maybe some jammy plum, and a little nuttiness, with some mild hop and sourness coming through on an oily medium mouthfeel. Just about as good a beer as a person can buy at under 10 bucks a six-pack.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
Smells of dark fruit, booze, yeast and slight caramel. Pours dark brown with bone white head of foam. Tastes like light dark fruit, but muted, kind of like Belgian Quad Light. Palate is weak; if youíve ever had a great quad, why would you drink this one? Sorry, I just donít get it.
