Bottle 25cl. Amber beer clear and woth good carbonation. Smell is fruity and classic belgium yeast. Aroma is nice and fruity, cassis, bitter orange, blackberry and with notes of cherry as well as oude bruin beers. Nice body, medium sweet, aroma of brown candy sugar. Nice beer.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Maris (465) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAY 22, 2010
From a 330ml bottle on 22 May 2010. The bottle states that the abv is 8.2% rather than 8.5%. The aroma is fruity (apples perhaps), roasted and spicy, and palate is almost creamy. Taste wise, this is sweet, fruity and malty, with just a touch of bitterness at the end. A solid Belgian ale and dangerously drinkable given the alcohol content.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hallinghansen (848) - Odense SV, DENMARK - MAY 15, 2010
Bottle. Clear red coloured with a huge off white head. Aroma of fruits and spices with notes of citrus. Sweet flavour of citrus and spices with notes of fruits and yeast.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nickls (1297) - SE DC, Washington DC, USA - APR 29, 2010
(Old BA rate - bottle)
Ruby brown color, with a nice thick slightly off-white head. Fruity and malty, with a little bit of sourness that reminded me of cherries. Definitely strong on the malt (good for the style), but back to the fruity characteristics found in the aroma. A little spice seems added, which is OK, but not too spectacular. Medium to thicker, and pretty viscous. I would have expected a bit more carbonation. Not too bad in this department, alcohol was well-hidden, but this is a bit to take down. Overall, this was a pretty good brew but pretty sweet
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - APR 20, 2010
Nice dark red color. Dryish aroma of caramel, raisins, earth and quite a bit of spice. Flavor is fruity and sweet, with that similar Leffe yeast, but not over the top. Earth, dryish hops, very spicy, nice bitterness. A bit boring and regular, but ok.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beershine (4561) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - APR 16, 2010
Bottle, during a thunderstorm in KL. Dark amber, clear with lasting cap. Smells as sweet as expected and very strange. Hard to describe. Sour fruit and tamarind. Raisin, plum, lemon candy. Tastes like jeera (cumin) candy. Spicy with a hint of clove. Finishes sweet and spicy. The clarity/filtration prevents the buildup of cloying yeast on the palate but I still find it too sweet. It would be good if the flavors were able to develop more.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 mickmac (405) - Ngunnawal, AUSTRALIA - APR 11, 2010
Bottle. Pours with a large dense foamy off-white head over a clear ruby brown body. Excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet bread, biscuit and coriander. Minerally iron taste, with a hint of sweetness followed by a mild spicey bitter finish. Light bodied, smooth. Nice, simple.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oakes (9997) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 9, 2010
Filtered reddish-brown with a thin head. 7-up aroma with light caramel but more attractive than that probably sounds. Somewhat chewy caramel taste with sweet pear and guava fruitiness. Unusual, in part because it was built to be filtered. It offers decent complexity and range and its actually somewhat enjoyable.
