3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jimthechap (640) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 23, 2011
Deep reddish caramel and an enormous fluffy white head, so good appearance marks. Aromas of astringency, caramel, raspberries, nuts, vanilla, and yet more berrifruit. Challenging aromas. There’s a lot to wade through (which I’ll do quite happily).
The first taste is one of intrigue. There’s a sourness and berry acidity and then maltiness comes through and it becomes soft and creamy, spicy and a little sweet. I rather like this, biut then I haven’t found too many Belgians I don’t like.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 edelbrauer (61) - Rügen, GERMANY - JUL 28, 2009
chestnut brown, little, quick disappearing head, fairly inviting, very nice aroma of red fruits, bitter orange, sugar and caramel and cheese. flavor is balanced between sweetness, and dark caramel malts with just a hint of roastiness, that gives a little bitterness. the alcohol is never evident and expertly built in. an inoffensive, balanced and rich brew

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2009 330mL bottle from a Leffe gift pack I got for Christmas. Poured into sweet branded glass it came with. Nice copperish red, with a small white head. The aroma is very pleasant, nice floral quality to it with some candi sugar and fruity esters (peach, cherry, etc.). Flavour starts out quite malty, then just sweet from the candi sugar, then the esters come in and are rounded out by some minerally bitterness and slight bite from the booze (that is not cloying). On the whole seems reminiscent of a candy apple. This is the best Leffe beer I’ve ever had, and I enjoyed the others I’ve had despite being technically macro’s. Glad to have another bottle, not overly complex but mildly subtle and very pleasant drinking on Christmas day.

330ml bottle from an LCBOgift pack. pours orangish red with a lasting head. aroma of pils malt and candy. flavour of grainy pils malt, amber candies sugar. the finish is dry and slightly bitter. this brew has the classic leffe profile which is not a bad way to introduce someone to belgian ales but its a very macro way of making this style. this offering is moderately complex and actually quite enjoyable.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TrefwoordPunk (652) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - JAN 20, 2008
Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear amber with a big creamy head and a sweet smell of ripe fruits (citrus and peach) and syrup. The flavor is like a heavily sweet triple, ripe fruits, mainly citrus, coriander and yeast. But there are some non-tripley, like toffee, biscuits and coffee with sugar and cream. The finish is bitter, like roasted grains. Good

Bottle 33cl.
Pours a clear ruby colour with a small size head and good carbonation.
Smell is very fruity, sweet fruits like cherries and raspberrys there, like a mix of kriek and framboise.
Taste is very fresh and clear, has the raspberrys there too, but no cherries.
Goes down with a nice bit of warmth.
