GoufCustom (1036) - HONG KONG - JAN 31, 2014

330ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.

Clear amber colour with no yeast sediments; Three-quarter finger head and soapy off white foam which lasts for 1 minute; Moderate sticky lacing and notable slight carbonation; Quite fragrant aroma of banana, vanilla, caramel, sugar, malt, light cloves and light alcohol; Mid to light sweet taste of light malt, with molasses, light alcohol, light caramel, hint of dark fruits, soda water, liquorices, lime and light grass; Mid to light body, quite slick palate; Mouth feel is like a hollow, boozed-up version of Leffe Blonde, with close to medium body but feel kinda thin, not malty enough, almost soda like; It has nearly no fruity taste, saved some dark fruit hints. Fairly sweet, light but sharp booze, low Bel yeast, unusual bitter hops, not a very balanced brew. Oh… Hoppiness is no nose, with lime and potent bitter hops in taste. Liquorices is quite strong for a lasting, sharp bitter finish; Fairly dry after taste, sweet and astringent to mouth.

Comments: This is a below-average BSA and rather poor offering by Leffe. Other than some decent estery and spicy aroma, its thin body, low maltiness, near zero fruity taste, boozy, sweet unbalanced by sharp bitter hops. On the same level with Palm Royale, and that means, not good.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear golden pour, thick white, long-lasting head. Tripel-style aromas, light spice, honey and spicy yeast. Taste is more sweety than anything, alcohol noticeable. Sticky finish. Not bad.

Pours quite a nice deep burnt orange colour. Aroma is quite spicy with a bit of funky Belgian yeast, not much else of note. Taste is bread, banana, coriander, fairly sweet, dries out a little in the finish. Not terrible at all but the appearance is the highlight for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled, thanks Bov! Clear amber, rich head. Metallic blueberry aroma. Sweet with clean, oily mouthfeel and medium body. Fruity with treacle and marzipan, notes of boiled vegetables. Syrupy finish with banana and resin. A poorly brewed belgian ale is not much better than a poorly brewed pale lager.

Drank fron a 75cl bottle. Best one from Leffe brewery! It’s a lot like the Leffe Blomd, but in every detail a bit better.

Ok here it goes. 3 x 330 ml bottle. Side by Side Leffe Royale - Nectar & Triple. Royale: pours deep yellow with fizzy head. Nose is clearly spices (cardamom & cloves). Medium body with low carbonation and high sweetness. Evades extremely quickly. Taste is undefined, but it is surely bland and superficiaL. 1.7/5 Triple: Pours light to hay yellow with white hue. Thin white head. Nose is lightly malty, some yeast but lots of alcohol. Medium body, watery feeling, too much booze. Taste is cloves and eucalyptus. 1.5/5 Nectar: malt, caramel in the nose, clear golden, creamy tiny head. Body is sweet sweet sweet with a tiny sour note due to unbalance with the light body. Bland finish. Taste is a bit of malt and lots of cane Sugar. 1.8/5 All in all, these beers confirmed my prejudices: bland as from the beginning (filtered, pasteurised etc... I actually miss a real beer flavour and aroma). Poured them all.

Drunk from 75cl bottle bought in Brussels. Pleasant tasting variant of Leffe blonde but not hugely different. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden hue with a large creamy white head. Yeasty, malty nose. Flavour is yeasty with banana hints and a reason bitter after taste. Very similar to leffe blonde.
