Bottled. Dark amber colour. Smoky nose, like other leffes. Slightly more flavour than blonde.

Draught at La Brasserie, Bergerac on 21 August. Poured a clear, deep golden, with a thin, but dense white head. Aroma of honey, tinned fruit and Leffe yeast. Some grassy hop in the flavour, with a little toasted malt and golden syrup. Finish was peaches, grain and straw.

It was just a matter of time before AB InBev was to decide to seize on the new ’tripel hop’ hype in Belgian specialty beers. This, in 2012, was the result: AB InBev’s answer to the new wave of strongly hopped blonde Belgian ales. It has a moussy, very stable and sticky, cream white head and a colour of ’old gold’, clear with relatively active sparkling. Artificial and, as always with Leffe, very ’cooked’ pasteurized smell, impressions of boiled rice, wheat, burnt vegetables, honey, iron, cake, smoky bourbon, chicken broth and tobacco, but very little noble hoppiness. Fruity and metallic onset, medium carbonation, light and slick, caramelly with sweetish corn, something meaty as in Leffe 9° and some faint grassy hops in the finish - but not a trace of the firm and elegant hoppiness of the beers it is inspired by, not surprising in view of AB InBev’s tactic of making beer which offends as few consumers as possible. Instead, I get bourbon-like, not too well hidden alcohol.

Mooi amberkleurig bier, mooie volle kraag. Kruidige moutgeur, smaak van kruiden mout en gedroogd fruit, zoetig, licht bitter. In mijn optiek niet het lekkerste Leffe biertje, maar zeker niet slecht.

BOTTLE 33CL. Look: brandy amber and clear, off-white frothy to creamy head. Aroma: delicate maltiness with spicy peppery notes, light blonde fruit perfume with light acid notes and a slight alcoholic scent. Taste: light blonde fruit perfume with light acid notes, malt sweetness, some alcohol but not too bad, spicy peppery and light bitter finish.

Malty and fruity aroma, no hops. Nice golden color, crystal clear. Good white head. Taste is light-medium sweet, not hoppy/bitter. Typical belgian fruit esters. Carbonation is very lively. Good typical Belgian Blonde Style.

Het beste bier dat ik al geproefd heb van Leffe, goede, volle smaak. Een aanrader.

Bottle. Clear orange, with a decent frothy white head. Aroma is of sweet malt, yeast, a little citrus note and a suggestion of spice. The flavour is sweet, yeasty, just lightly spicy, unrefined and thin. Alcohol is evident. Unconvincing.

Light brownish colour with good carbonation. Has a pleasant nutty/fruity aroma, complex taste and goes down like a charm, good beer.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
