Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with airy white head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with notes of yeast and touches of hops. Sweetish, malty and fruity flavour, with notes of yeast and banana, only slightly complemented by the hoppy bitterness. Rough, bananalike and estery aftertaste with some bitter notes. Honestly, it is a Tripel but somehow it is uncannily reminiscent of a German Hefeweizen. Easy to drink and unpretentious, though.

33 cl carrfor. Delade denna med Linda och kunde konstatera att den var god men inte den bästa leffen

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2014 Alright, let’s give this a try, despite my aversion against the Leffe brand... Medium thick, lacing, pale yellowish white, moussy head, colour light peach blonde, hazy with tiny bits of black (dead) yeast floating around. Nose is quite distinctive and gets a kind of fruity sweetness and tartness with impressions of passion fruit, poultry stock or chicken soup, mango, corn, cider, tomato concentrate, lemon zest, fresh orange, biscuit, sweet tobacco, honey, cinnamon, dry white wine, cake, faint lavender. Taste is sweetish and soft, rounded, with passion fruit and peach at the onset, a bit sugary, honeyish, slick and on the thin side for the style, a bit bready, with a slight sourishness accompanying the palate, clearly from wheat; finish is a bit dry, with a slight toasted accent as in an amber ale, accompanied by some herbal hops and a somewhat wry alcohol effect, a bit chemical and artificial as well, but still a lot more honest and true to Belgian beer traditions than the other Leffes. I’d consider this among the better ones of the Leffe brand because it’s bottle refermented (and brewed elsewhere than the rest), but it still has a long way to go to become the best tripel - in fact, I find this amongst the lesser of tripels in Belgium. Still, I managed to kind of enjoy this - to a very limited amount. In all: okay for the sweet-toothed masses who expect a tripel to be heavy and sweet, but useless if you’re out there to find the best example of this noble - but all to often compromized - Belgian beer style. I had this after Gouden Carolus Tripel and Sint-Bernardus Tripel, so it didn’t stand much of a chance in this tasting session anyway...

330ml bottle served in its own chalice. A: Pours a hazy golden "whity" color. Looks like a Weissbier. Head is bubbled and medium head. Medium to low retention. Many lacings S: Quite malty and spicy upfront. Sweet and fruity. Citrus notes. Bit booze. Bready and earthy Belgian yeasts T: Sweet upfront. Strong notes of sweet pale malts, honey, dry peaches and spices. Citrus notes. Balanced bittersweetness. Belgian bready and earthy yeasts. M: Full bodied: creamy and molasses. Medium carbonation. Malty bittersweet aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Very decent triple [ BA Review @ 11/4/2011 ]

Really like this one! Full yellow/orange colour, with a nice sweet taste with a small bitter! A lot of flavour and drinkable in all moods.

VDuquerroux (312) - Airvault, FRANCE - OCT 5, 2014
Bottle, 33cL. Home. A brown yellow opaque beer with a big white head ; medium retention. Aroma of herbs, caramel, honey, overripe fruits. Medium sugary sweet, light bitter. Heavy body, oily texture, medium carbonation, warming finish. Overall, more a strong dubbel than a tripel. Too powerful, too sweet.

Unlike the Leffe Blonde Ale we all know this beer is unpasteurized so that it’s more turbid, more artisanal-like and so the double expensive too. Its foam is huge and massive, really beautiful. Strong aroma of coriander, cinnamon and grassy noble hops on the solid basis of sweet caramel. And that’s the matter, too sweet. A tripel shouldn’t be that sweet! Chimay, St. Bernardus, La Chouffe, Tripel Karmeliet... didn’t they teach you how much attenuate a tripel? Use a proper mash temperature (low temperature) and a proper yeast, holy hell!
