The authentic Belgian abbey beer: Leffe Vieille Cuvee has a creamy and very aromatic taste.

The (hopefully) last beer in this brand I haven’t tasted. Has been in existence since 1956 but has not been on the Belgian market anymore for many a year, so I had to buy this in France, where apparently it has also been discontinued now... Moussy, lacing, irregular, off-white head, colour a deep and clear, orangey copper, almost no fizz. Aroma clearly reveals pasteurization (cooked smell), but not as bothersome as in most other Leffe beers; I otherwise get caramel, butterscotch, roasted peanuts, aniseed, honey, iron (quite strong after a while), bubblegum, candied orange and gingerbread. Some fruitiness in the onset, orange and apricot, but mostly a honeyish, sugary sweetness, though it manages to stay ’clean’ and only becomes a bit cloying to the teeth and throat in the end; in between, there are sweet caramelly and toasted, nutty malts, supple and mellow mouthfeel, a bit metallic with rather low carbonation; finish has, apart from the sugary sweetness, a hint of spicy hop bitterness as well as warming, bourbon-like alcohol. A late chemical, rubbery wryness also shows up after a while, but remains subtle enough not to become too unpleasant. In all: less bad than I had feared, maybe the best Leffe of them all, and I’d welcome it on the Belgian market again if it would replace both Leffe Radieuse and Leffe 9°, both of which it bears resemblances with.

Bottle - chestnut with a very big bubbly, dirty white head. aroma of banana, cherry, sourness, yeast and cloves. Taste of yeast, cherry and raspberry, light sourness, yeast and a light alcohol bite in the finish. Medium body, high carbonation.

Barwa ciemnego bursztynu, piana obfita, drobno pęcherzykowa, ładny lancing. Aromat owocowy, karmelowy, do tego przyprawy, przejrzały banan. W smaku powtórka z aromatu, słodkie, średnie wysycenie i alkohol przyjemnie rozgrzewający przełyk, wszystko ok, pije sie dobrze ale brakuje tu jakichś ciekawszych wrażeń ;)

Pours clear amber, good and steady white head . Smell is sweet , sugar , honey , ... Taste is very sweet with the same filthy taste I find in all leffes . Not only do I hate the brand for what it stands for , it all has the same typical filthy sweetness . Is it their kind of sweeteners ? Is it because they push this beer to be ready in way less time than natural ? Is it the fact it contains more additives than actual ingredients ? Slightly overcarbonated, but not as much as the average belgian beer . If only the taste was doable ... I can however agree to the creamy factor , described in the Ratebeer description
