Aroma: caramel, sweet fruits, ripe prunes, grain malts. Appearance: clear, dark brown, big, creamy, off-white head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: sweets intensify, strong caramel, fruity, turning light bitter and dry in the finish, medium carbonation. Overall: nice Belgian Strong Ale, not too sweet in aroma and palate. Bottle 33cl. Pours copper clear with a big tanish persistent head. Aroma is yeasty, vanilla and red fruits. Taste is sweet but well balanced by the alcool, notes of caramel. Medium body and carbonation.

Out of the 33cl bottle, the appearence is inviting with its dark amber color and light yellow head. I really like the strong caramel aroma which fortunately does not turn into a too sweet taste. On the contrary, the beer leaves me with a nice bitter end in mouth.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 49 03:05 AROMA: sweet malty and caramely background with peppey alcohols. Some faint dried fruits (raisins and some plums). no hop aromas or other additions. APPEARANCE: deep amber color and translucent. large and dense moussy head with ivory color. average retention with some lacing. TASTE: sweet malty profile without much complexity. some bread notes and medium-low bitterness. finishes medium-dry. PALATE: medium-low body with average carbonation. OVERALL: yet another average Belgian Strong Ale that faces tough competition.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2015 330ml bottle served in a chalice. A: Pours a clear dark amber color forming a very creamy, soapy and persistent light yellow head. Lots of lingering and molasses lacings are formed and left in the glass. S: Sweet, fruity and spicy in the nose. Notes of caramel, caramel malts, honey, candy sugar, dark fruits (mainly plums and grapes). Light spicy notes like cloves and black pepper. Strong Belgian yeasts character: quite bready and earthy. Light notes of flowery hops. T: Sweet and malty upfront. Strong notes of toffee and caramel malts. Notes of honey and dry dark fruits (plums and raisins). Sweet bread and some spices like cloves. Notes of bubblegum, earth and hops. Light bitterness. Balanced bittersweet strong Belgian Ale style. M: Full and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Very sweet and malty aftertaste. O: Good drinkability despite the sweetness and high ABV (8.2%). Belgium Strong Ale character. Recommended. [ BA Review @ 4/24/2010 ]
