Black in color, has a brown head and it smells of chocolate/coffee. Taste is smooth, chocolate, raisins and it finishes with a strong coffee... Good.

Sample at GABF 2014. Comes almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and alcohol. Very nice.

22oz. bottle. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, toasted nuts and dark bread, some faint licorice, smoke and toffee in the background, fairly rich in character but not overly sweet. Solid black in color with a lasting, intricate, fine-bubbled, light tan head with a galactic swirl in the center. Flavor profile is roasty, lightly coffeeish, full of darkly toasted malts, some dark chocolate here as well, and showing a lightly bitter, earthy, gently alcoholic and dry finish. Smooth and creamy on the palate, lightly warming and full in body but this is very easy to drink considering the heft and strength. Really quite good, particularly considering that this has probably been aged for a year or so.

22oz bomber. Thick unfiltered brown-black body. Respectable rusty beige head. Bitter coffee, chocolate in the aroma. Pretty good Imperial Stout. A nice hoppy balance to the massive caramel and chocolate malt tones. Straightforward, clean for the style, not overly sticky or hot. Drinkable, well executed.

This has been sitting in the back of my fridge for years, I have no idea when I even bought it. A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a two-finger thick, richly brown tinged, dark tan colored head that leaves a bit of lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a concentrated brown / black color that is opaque when held up to the light, but does perhaps show a hint of burnt amber. The nose smells of aged dark malt that leans towards cocoa drenched, toasted nuts, underlying rich, umami laden malt complexity (think of things like soy sauce, or teriyake, but not quite like that), and lots of roasted character, though it is restrained for an Imperial Stout, that leans towards concentrated coffee, and whole grain burnt toast. There is a bit of warm alcohol that adds some spice to the finish.

A mix of roasted notes, rich concentrated malt character, roasted nutty notes, lots of dark cocoa character, and a finish that has just enough of a balancing sweetness. The richness here has lots of umami like character, a bit smoky even, with perhaps even a touch of sherry like age to it. The body has a nice richness to it, but it is somewhat light bodied for a modern-day Imperial Stout, though it is still quite rich. As the beer warms up a rich, concentrated, dark fruit character starts to come out; reminiscent of prunes, and a bit of fig notes, this pairs well with the aged malt character, the nuttiness, and the deep savory quality that this beer has.

Much better than I was expecting, and I am guessing that the age has treated this beer quite nicely; the age has added a lot of complexity to this beer that was likely missing in a fresher example.

Shared bomber to snifters. Delicious sweet aroma of chocolate and vanilla and some booze. Deep brown pour. Thin tan ring. A little thin on the mouth feel but good. Very sweet. Dark chocolate flavor. Delicious.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium creamy light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is roasted grains, black licorice, fudgy chocolate and a little dark fruit.

The flavor is bitter charred roasted grain with some black licorice, chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel is a little thin and watery.

Overall, an OK imperial stout. Itís thin and dominated by charred roast and black licorice.

10oz on tap. Looks the part, real nasty! Black color, light lacing, light lacing, opaque. The taste is very good, bitter, with moderate complexity. The palate is not good for the style, though. Itís not as rich as Iím used to despite the high abv. Kind of leaves you flat.

Kind of thin on the tongue for an imperial but still acceptable. Worst part is no aroma. Nice chocolate coffee flavors. Light bitterness. Nice lasting head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
