At Left Coast Brewing Co. we pride ourselves on being one of the pioneers of Double IPA style craft beer. This hop monster uses Premium American 2– Row and a touch of light crystal malt to create a solid malt foundation. Five different Hop Varieties are used in the Hop Juice. It spends two weeks dry hopping in fermenter contributing to its great hop aroma. Starts out sweet and finishes with the crisp bitterness of a Double IPA. This drinkable blend will have you HOPPING till nights end.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2008 22 oz bottle from BevMo: Slightly hazy amber with medium, fading, bright white head. Nose is tropical fruit and caramel. Flavor starts rich and tropical fruit sweet with some citrus followed by a light, lingering orange rind bitter finish. Medium body is creamy with soft carbonation. Alcohol well hidden, but sneaks up on you fast.

On tap@O’brien’s served by none other than the Master Brewer Tom Nickel himself: Deep amber color with a huge frothy off white head. Nose is citrus and caramel. Sweet start turning lightly bitter with a long dry lingering grapefruit rind aftertaste. Smooth creamy mouth feel. Alcohol well hidden.

I am confused as well. Is there another name for this. Nice grapefruit aroma. Very citrusy taste. You can taste some malt but it is way overcome by the hops. Very drinkable.

This confuses me because no one has rated this yet, but I am drinking a bottle of Left Coast Hop Juice. 9.6% ABV. Aroma of fresh grapefruit and orange juice. Hazy brownish orange. Thin head. Nice lacing. Hops, Hops, Hops! Some puckering bitterness comes through. Grapefruit, orange, tangerine, Light toasted malt. Some alcohol. Resiny. Chewy. Almost everything I look for in an IIPA. Not as good as Pliny, but damn good! Re-rated after it warmed. Deducted 1 point overall because it is a little hot in terms of alcohol.

On tap at Oggi’s Scottsdale. Clear darker yellow/light amber color with creamy white head. Decent lacing on the glass. Great hops in this one with a citrus and grapefruit aroma. Clean and crisp finish with a huge hoppy aftertaste.

Small white head that thins out quickly with a smidgen of spotty lace. Hazy, orange color. Nose of citrus and crystal malts, mostly subdued. Medium bodied, lightly oily with sub par carbonation. Crystal malts up front with notes of teabag, light citrus and some breadyness. Fairly dry finish, some mint notes. Hmmmmmm, where,s the hops not to mention the juice?? An old bottle? was expecting a bit more from this one. Bomber acquired from SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2008 Really good - malty but not too much so. You can smell this beer accross a room when you open it. The flavors are dank pine and roasted malt. Pours a copper with very little head at fridge temp, much more head at cellar temp. SECOND ANALYSIS: This definitely has more of a funky, barleywine taste. To the point where it has become distracting. THIRD ANALYSIS: Definitely does not hide the alcohol - almost sickening...

Bonus bottle from FlacoAlto - thanks!! Clear golden-amber color. Aroma is big and hoppy, mostly cantaloupe and some citrus. Flavor is dominated by cantaloupe-ey hops plus a decent amount of sharp citrus hoppiness and a subtly-sweet maltiness. Good stuff - seems like a solid DIPA you could drink all the time!

Poured amber with an off white head. Aroma of citrus and hops. Solid hop flavor with some citrus hints. Finished rather dry. Not bad.

650 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a nice hazy copper color with a small white head that dissipated moderately fast. The aroma has big citrus notes with grapefruit, oranges and a touch of lemon. The flavor is very hops forward with biter piney hops dominating the front, the sides and the finish. Other flavors present include caramel, vanilla, oranges and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is full and malty. On finish the biter hops still dominate and they are a bit harsh and slightly astringent. Overall: This a great IPA for biter ale lovers (based on the beer I sampled). But, based on reading all the varying reviews, I’m betting that the brewery has problems with consistency. Lets hope that they iron out the rough edges. Recommended.
