Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours near black with a medium beige head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, fruit, light chocolate, roast and alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap @ Left Coast Brewing: Appeared as an evil dark black liquid that was the only beer served on my visit at Left Coast’s tap room served with a decent serving of foam head. The aroma smells sugary sweet with traces of roast malt and a chance of wood. The drink is intensely sweet and taste so much like Hershey’s chocolate syrup but also has a rich base of roast malts that suggest chocolate and coffee bean. The wood aging is minimal and almost goes unnoticed but there is a notice of medicine flavor in the aftertaste. Overall, really solid tasty beer.

Black in color with a small khaki head. Strong port aroma, grape, raisin, and plum. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and some licorice. Light tartness, leather, and oak. Very port forward flavor. Big grain and raisin notes, too. Somewhat tart. Roasted malt, oak, coffee, and a slight leathery dryness on the finish.
